Hi All

Firstly a quick introduction - I am based in Newbury UK and have owned a 57 plate Tuono for 6 months. I am lovin it and just cant wait to get away in June for a week in the Pyrenees.

That brings me to my first question. Can anyone suggest a tank bag and tail pack that will fit my Tuono. Preferably something waterproof as I always get soaked when touring. I have tried Kriega but its not ideal.

Thanks

Trenny

Hi Trenny. Don't know about a tank bag but most on here that use luggage use the Ventura system, it get's great reports.

Hi trenny

What didn't you like about the Kriega? I have a US20 tailpack which admittedly I have only used for a 2 night camping trip so far, but I found it superb and plan to get two US10s to up capacity to 40 litres. I bungeed an Ortlieb dry bag on top of the Kriega and it worked perfectly. I reckon that lot together with a tank bag would do me for a week+ in Europe no problems.

As Aldo said, the Ventura stuff is meant to be very good.

yo Gilo theres no way that would be enough luggage space for you , you need your hair dryer ,straighteners and all that jazz..:thumbup

Hey Windy, if I ever go on a trip with you I'll just empty out some of your 60 litre bag full of pies when you're not looking and stick me straighteners in there to save space on my bike :cheers

Sounds like a good trip - did something similar on my old sv. first tour i did I used a universal tail pack with dual soft pannier, more than enough for 8 days in the south of france and all weathers (wasn't camping)

i used these soft panniers

and this tail pack

all worked fine, only real pain in the arse was attaching the base to the bike - its ok if you only need to do it occasionally, but more than that and its a complete pig and time waste, also have to spend ages routing the straps to stop body rub.

why mention all you may ask, simples, am now using a ventura rack and its 100 times better - its bloody expensive, but worth the outlay for quality and convenience, i didn't fancy the £100 ventura bag so still use by roll bag and it only take 10 seconds to strap on, could still attach the panniers as well, but they just touch the pipes - depending on how weighted down the panniers are..!!

don't use tank bags as don't like them, also thought the tuono tank is plastic !! so magnetic wont work ! do correct me if i am wrong on this lads..

me trusty auld Oxford tail pack ah got as a freebie frae Bike mag donks ago works a treat, light and roomy, simple tae bungee oan. Ye jist need tae stick evry thing in a bin bag first cos leeaks like fook.
Great invention the auld black bag!

Yer got a soap box in the pack? how the feck do yer throw yer leg ower that lot?
I use the black bin bag system as well, it works a treat and stops yer fannying aboot wae the "waterpoof covers"
I fabed an alloy carrier fir ma throw ower's last year, I'll post a pic of it. That said when the bike's loaded wae ma gear I could be mistaken fir one o they gerry transcontinental dudes, not kool.

caiiry a couple o bricks in ma pooches tae help loup oan!. There wiz near a weeks worth o gear in there including a tool kit comprisin o a shifter, fower tiewraps an a bottle o malt !

you don't...you approach the bike as though you're trying to kick a door in...foot first...

the technique...just imagine you've got home from the pisser...no keys...and the missus has locked you out....take three paces back....and lunge at the ****** with your boot....over you slide...and into the seat...easy :yes (unless that is...that you have actually been in the pisser...you'll go flying straight over the bike and land on yer arse...)

spot oan T min, ah huv been known tae boot the odd side panel in as am nae as springy as a wiz when younger. Mair likely tae pull ma hamstring wi that manoover

I'm a level two UKA coach.

My License qualifies me fir Speed events, ie hurdles etc.
I coach 2-3 times a week and try to demonstrate correct technique.

Guess I'll need to get a more substantial side stand cause there ain't no way I'm going to launch a leg at a fully loaded bike.

As a side question where in Europe do they have the highest kerbs?

Hi trenny

What didn't you like about the Kriega?

Hi Gilo, I do like the Kriega to a point. But for a tank bag it's not that practical. I like to use something with a zip so I can quickly get cash out for the tolls and passport etc. Although the Kriega does have a little zip pocket its not waterproof so you need to bag everything. I also like to keep a charger socket in the tank bag for my ipod and navigator.

The kriega is better on the back but I do fancy the Ventura as again I prefer zip opening as it is easier to get stuff out and leave the rest in the bag quite organised, which is better in my view as we tend to hop between camp sites and stay in small mountain tents.

Thanks for your input.

Those soft bags look OK but I think it's gonna be Ventura for the back. The Tuono does have a plastic tank but the Held Task bag as a harness for plastic tanks and it looks like they have a dedicated harness for a Tuono. Reading the Ride magazine review it got the top place as recommended tank bag as it was 100% waterproof without a rain cover.

I think I am gonna give it a try. http://www.bikersbarn.co.uk/Luggage/Bags-for-plastic-tanks/HELD-4212-Task-Vario-15-Litre-Tankbag__p-35-36-60.aspx
