Hi so im new here.
Been driving inline fours for many years. Then i got myself a honda sp1,Had that for 8 years but now im getting on a bit i found the riding position a bit much & i also wanted a more everyday bike. But im not ready to hang up my boots and i want some fun.so i was looking at honda cb1000r.,,,, but i thought wind blast!! then i looked at a blade ...not as cramped as the sp1 but maybe still a bit too much so,,spotted a bmw k1200r but it looks a big bike for my short legs.
As you can see all of these all going down inline 4 route again,Then i got a message on another forum from someone offering a 2007 tuono daytona 300 and i like what i see.
So i have been trying to research these; a daytona is an r with a different paint job? How big a difference is there between an r and a factory? What are these bike like to live with every day? sp1 was lumpy an low revs is the tuono as bad? Is the wind blast bearable? What are service costs like? Is most things an easy to do yourself?
What goes wrong and what to look for? Im sure i will have much more to ask ?
Any info welcome

Welcome mucker, there's a dude on here had a blinged to the hilt daytona,,,,,,,,,,,,,very smart looking bike it is.

His son now has it,,,,,,no doubt he'll post some picks when he returns from his hols.

Here's one from another channel.

Easter hoon

Second pic, the one on the right is his Daytona.

Welcome ET.
That's a lot of questions for a first post.

Sounds like the SP1 has similar engine characteristics to a Tuono, got to kep them spinning a bit to get past the lumpy patch.

Differences between a r and a factory are mainly suspension.

Some people do big mileage, so must ride them a lot, the seat is not too comfy on a long ride though.

Wind blast is ok, till you start getting into licence loosing territory.

Only get mine serviced at local specialist, not too bad.

It's Italian, things go wrong occasionally, electrics, rear brake not the best.

In my limited experience, the Daytona version seems to attract people that are colour blind with no sense of style.

Factory also has lighter wheels and different brakes too...

Rear shock on the R is crap... If it has anything other than the original sachs then thats a bonus .
Changing sprox helps with the lumpy eng... try 15/42.
Side stands are made of cheese and have a poor footprint - plenty of options to replace tho.
Oh... dont worry if it has black clutch fluid... its normal !

Ask the owner what "map" its on.... If it has after market cans then it should be on "2". Maps can only be changed by a dealer... or someone with the right kit...

Good luck in your search...

:)

Did the Daytona come with glittery wheels as standard ? :lol

Hey so im back again ( hear you all sigh) Thanks for all the input so far.
So the factory is the one to go for! do all the factory have the gold coloured frames? or is there something else to look out for?
I was talking to a guy who is selling one but he tells me the rev counter is not working ..what might this be? could it be part of a bigger problem?

Yes the factory has the gold frames , they also have gold forged wheels after 2007 & Red Lion paint scheme (like the Daytona) up to 2009 when it changed to Black Dream for the final year.
Failed rev counter could be related to the misting clocks problem:dunno, but i'm sure someone with more knowlage than me will be along soon.

Ask if the clocks had been stripped to fix the misting?

Might be the rev arm wasn't mounted back on the pin correctly.

greetings and salutations mucker:thumbup
