Hi all. Do rad covers overheat your tuono engine?

Hello everyone, I have just had my lovely brand new tuono R a week ago, and i was interested in getting the 3 rad covers to stop those expensive holes caused by stones going through the rad, but I have been advised from my Aprilia dealer that they will cause the oil and water rads to overheat, has any 1 fitted them to their tuono and found this to be the case, all replies much appreciated.

Ah I feel that your Aprilia dealer has been drinking meths.... I have an 07 Tuono R and ave the Bewoulf ones fitted, and nope.. so far I have had no overheating probs... in fact my dealer advised me to get some ... and looking at the dents in them i'm bloody glad i did.

Nice 1 Mogster, did you buy the stainless ones or the black?, i'm thinking the black would look better on the bike as it's the matt black bike i bought.

Mogster or anyone else who reads this can you tell me if you have had a problem of the clock misting up a little in the corner after being out for a spin as mine has slightly, it seems to clear up fairly quickly but wasn't sure if this was a common problem or just a duff clock?

Hmmm.... misty clocks eh.... erm cant say that I've noticed that on mine... am sure others will be along soon to confirm, but according to my dealer tis not sumit he's herd of b4..
And i got the shiney Stainless covers, as mine is the Strawberry Cornetto colour....and i do like shiney...am just finishing thowing large amounts of Titanium at it... as fer some reason i just dont trust some of the fasteners NOT to be made of pasta.

How's it going Mogster? Do ya have any pics of yr rad covers? i can't decide which i prefer :banghead, the balck or stainless? Wot do ya fink?

oh i would prolly go for the black seeing as ya got the 'Stealth' version, nearly got that colour meself, but in the end after much deliberation and a firm 'No I couldn't get new leathers to match the bike' from me GF... i got the Strawberry Cornetto flavour.

Misty clocks are free of charge with every Tuono sold.

As is the stupid grin and excessive heart rate every time you ride it.

Good call chunky, no clock probs 4 me i recon matt black with a shinny steel rad would b real cool. bit a bling to offset the whole black ***** picture & ya got shinny pipes to go with it.... mmmmmmm think i beta get me one

Tsk! dont ya just hate it when peeps all have different opinions... :argh looks like ya gonna have to flip a coin!:lol

Solution: Buy black and stainless. That way you can alternate them on a daily/weekly basis.:thumbup

Beowulf guards fitted on my 2004 and no problems with overheating. My Tuono is black and I chose the gold covers. I think it looks really good.

I've heard of other new model Tuonos with misting clocks.

Got my new Factory today and yup, the clocks do mist up in the bottom right corner!

Looking for rad guards - which are the best, how much are they and where can I get them?

Anyone got pictures of a black set and a Chrome set fitted so I can decide which way to go?

Gen 2 Tuono's do suffer clock misting, check out AF1's forum for endless postings.

Beowulf make gold or stainless, they don't do black.

Take a tip from Motocafe and make some out of mesh - takes half an hour and costs about £5.

Nip to Ikea and buy a black aluminium mesh waste paper basket and chop it up.

Oh yeah - overheating - no. Liz and I have just done the France thing, riding through traffic near Vichy, in blistering sun, neither bike overheated, both bikes had the fans running, and we have mesh on both - a lot cheaper than a new radiator.

Thanks for the advice - just been on the Beowulf website and they do in fact do black rad guards now - so I ordered a set, £74.50 including postage.

No probs with my Beowulf rad covers, runs fine and looks good. As for the clocks; a little misting can get a lot worse quite quickly

At last yrs TT I could only see the area from 8k revs and above. This set were replaced under warranty but despite re-sealing my 2nd set they are also showing signs of misting again. A good tip is to get a shower cap (the type you can aquire from a hotel) and place it over the clocks when you are washing the bike etc...

mmmmm my mate just got an 08 T and the clock is misting up just where it appears that it should.
Bottom right quarter but you can still see through it...... **** im lucky mine doesn't do that but it might be that its an 05...

Yeah - they do them for the Gen 2, but will not make a set for the Gen 1 in black :dunno
