Hello Guys

I am writing this in the hope that someone out there has had similar running issues to me and can point me in the right direction as what to try next

I swapped my 02 gixxer 1000 for a 03 RSV1000 MILLIE a couple of months back and it has never ran properely since getting it.

It has hesitation under 6k and will sometimes loose power momentarily if i keep it at a steady throttle. Say in 1st gear at a constant throttle of 4k. This brief loss of power seems more noticable in 1st gear than any other.

Once it eventually clears the 6k mark the power comes on strong and revs cleanly to the rev limiter.

I have tried numerous throttle body bypass combinations and set CO's using a gunson gas meter and no set up gets rid of this hesitation. Today i tried 1 1/4 on the front and 1 one the back but still no joy. I have checked coils which are all ok, ive put new correct plugs in it, i even removed the datatool alarm today thinking that could be the cause. Still no joy. The TPS is set at 0 with the adjuster right out.

The bike has a Dr Rossi chip which was installed by the previous owner, a Beowulf end can and standard airfilter which is clean.

When riding and the throttle is closed off it sometimes makes a slight backfire, its kind of a muffled backfire and not the same as if the air/fuel mixture was well out.

I have ran out of ideas as what to try next, please if anyone can shed some light on this problem it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Gordon

I had exactly the same problem up to 6 and tried everthing but this power curve is now is brilliant.
What I had was 57's, twin arrows, edwards trumpets on a 2002 engine K & N free flow and it was really dead below 6k when I spoke with Griff he said must be a power commander and mapped.
So I took it up to Griff's and he booked it in to his dyno man Neil and he set it up and if you look at the power curves you will see that the power does not even dip at 10.2 k when the rev limiter cuts in most drop off at 9ish but the Rossi chip alters ignition as well as fuel.
So my advice is to get a power commander and take it to Griff's for Neil to do his magic.

As you can also see the power on the red line is strong from low down.

I remember you doing this before the zone died the fella you had it off had it set up by griff and it was fine till he changed the can so I would be looking there ?

HI GORDON
ALEX HERE, AS I EXPLAINED TO YOU, AFTER GRIFF SET THE BIKE UP I CHANGED THE CHIP AND CAN, THIS HAS THROWN THE TBs AND CO2s OUT,,, CONTACT GRIFF AND TRY TO GET HIM TO RE SET THESE FOR YOU WHICH WILL CURE THE PROBLEM,,, I THINK YOU HAVE MISSED HIM UP IN SCOTLAND AS I THINK HE WAS UP THE 10TH AND 11TH THIS MONTH,,, I NOTICE YOU TRIED TO SET THE CO2s WHAT WAS THE METER READING OUT AS I THINK WHEN GRIFF DONE THESE HE MENTIONED IT SHOULD READ 3 BUT DONT QUOTE ME ON THAT,,, CONTACT HIM AT APRILIA PERFORMANCE TEL: 01827 285500,,, HE WILL SORT IT OUT FOR YOU,, I NOTICED YOU SAID YOU HAVE THE BEOWULF ON, DID YOU GET IT RE-PACKED :thumbup:thumbup

Hello guys.

Yes Alex i sent the can back to Beowulf who re-skined and re-packed free of charge. Life time guarantee with their exhausts so worked out pretty good.

After speaking with Griff he suggest i try the original can back on, which i did. Fuelling perfectly now throughout the rev range, big improvement comaped with the Beowulf on. What i am getting now is a backfire sometimes when on the smallest throttle openings, Griff reckons this could have something to do with how cold it is as this is a recent development. He also suggested i try the orignal chip back in it but that was never given to me when i received the bike. Dont suppose u've got it lying about somewhere Alex?

Anyone else experiencing slight backfire issues since this cold snap has come round?

I think a power commander will be the next purchase along with an open airbox of some sort, quite like the look of this collector bhox mod too.....

Thanks for all help and suggestions guys.
