hero blobs

hey people
lost my hero blob yesterday racing a gsxr 750 k7 :doug and wondering if anyone has found a titanium replacement for extra sparking action? Also, does anyone know what a hero blob is called in a catalogue or roughly what angle the blobs touch down?

will say that mille held tight when k7 went wide and as an ex gsxr 1000 k5 owner was impressed. once sorted, rsvr's are really, really good, but should they really need so much effort to set up? :dunno

I know of mates of mine that use to change them for Ti bolts.

Took mine off ASAP, even now i am scraping the sidestand on the road, makes some noise:devious

The knobs are there for a reason. At 45 degrees of lean angle, there is 1G of lateral force on the tyres (and about 40% more weight). Good street tyres can be expected to give around 1.1G's max - the knobs are designed to let you know you're approaching the limits of traction in good conditions. (YMMV)

Scraping any hard parts is a bad thing. Usually can be correced by using better riding form.

Been scraping things for years and never done me any harm, the blobs are way to long on the mille to start with, first thing i do is remove them, i think Luigi was playing things a bit safe when he worked out the length of them for the Mille:biggrin

thanks for that information. The 2 CT's are allegedly designed to cope with 53 degrees lean angle, although that is a whore of a lean angle on the road!! On the 2007 mille, I dont think that there is much room for more lean angle because the pipes are in the way. (Akraprovic slip ons with extension pipe on mine)
reference the better riding style, we all want to scrape for fun so not so relevant on the road when we're showing off but once hired a cbr600 track bike at Brands and found myself scraping the exhaust, pegs and even the fairing. I did ask one of the instructors how i could improve my riding style so i could stop using the bike as a pivot to lifting the forces off the tyres but they seemed to be at a loss. I think the best they could offer was to slow down. I take it that the best way to maintain speed without increasing lean angle is to hang off more and lower the centre of gravity?
I once heard that the police are taught how to corner faster without too much lean angle to maintain good contact patches at high speed and in the wet but never seen it in action.

Badger, the stand is bad enough without grinding it off!!! That must be elbow down angle is it?

Tyres are developing faster than my info :laugh That's pushing 1.4G's of lateral force (1.37) I guess our sreet tyres are better than GP race tyres of a few years ago these days.

Baz, the stand has ground a few times on the road due to aggressive cornering, and on 2ct's which are not the stickiest of tyres, but well capable of some decent lean angles and some aggressive throttle use, they do spin up a bit on exiting corners in the dry though if trying to squeeze to much from them.

Talking of elbow down, not quite, but if i was trying to do it by moving my hand out on the throttle grip and sticking my arm out more it could well happen............a pic from Croft earlier this year

i think sometimes the syspension setup has a lot to do with the ability to touch it down.

An old Zx10 i used to ride used to deck out the stand/pegs and me easily cos it was a soggy old sponge and just squated in the corner.

Since i had an old 250 Bultaco Sherpa enduro bike that seized when you sneezed, i have covered the clutch ever since with my index finger, old habits die hard mate:biggrin

Did a bit of MX Spoonz, or scrambling as it was called in the days after the Boer war, plus some enduro stuff, 500cc Maico's and Huskies etc, men's bikesirate

It certainly ain't soggy sussies on the Mille that's causing the stand to scrape, it seems to happen after i have removed my brain, once re-inserted it is fine again:thumbup

I developed a sense of self preservation these days after discovering i don't bounce as well as i did so scraping anything other than my knee is unlikely unless i bin it.

My Trials bike was An Aprilia too.

Very nice Aprilia trials bike Spoonz..what size engine is it mate..what sort of torque @ the rear. Looks like alot of fun... i have had a couple of goes on a trials bike...a very tricky art indeed...i take my had off to those that can hop, skip, lauch their way over a tricky trial course. I have seen footage going back of a guy that hopped his bike across rocks on the back wheel..landing, pivoting with bunny hops, then launching onto the next rock..down thru this creek bed, up and out the otherside...man, i would have troubles climbing it on foot...by hell he was good at it. All top stuff

i don't have it any more. sold it when i moved to Jersey as there was little need for it there.

Wish i had kept it and i might well get another some day.

Can't remember the torque but it was a 280cc Rotax rotary valve engine. By trials standards it was a fiery beast and launched up steps and climbs like a rat up a drainpipe. Not so hot at the delicate stuff due to being a handful.

pretty though. The other riders used to sing. "just one cornetto" every time i rode by. Won me some trophies so i have fond memories of it.
