Well I bought this bike last May just about a year ago from a lovely old boy in Tillcoultry (near Fife). Jon bought the bike new and used it only during the short summer UP North
At some point in its life it fell forwards off the stand and luckily for Jon the damage was very mild.
You can see in some of the pictures the small scuffs and scrapes the bike had.
At the end of last year I decided I wanted to make the most of the good looks my bike has and despatched to the powder coaters a few bits and bobs that needed doing. I like stuff "Box Fresh" now that’s not to dismiss you Carbon Junkies at all but I just like my gear as nice and straight as it can be and as near to "Factory" as possible.
I had the Bar ends done along with the rear reflector hanger as it was looking a bit scruffy. A lucky eBay purchase saw me collect a brand new seat unit for £50 .
I stripped the fairings off and decided to do the preparation on the panels I was having painted myself. This allows you to make a good connection with the bike but as preparation is 80% of the cost of paint work it allowed me to keep the costs down.
I first stripped and cleaned the belly pan both inside and out and removed the decals. I ordered some replacements’ from the Image Works.
Once I had repaired the scuffing and flatted the panels I took them to a painter local to me in Durham
Davey, painted the Silver (twice as the first go was too light) and then clear coated the panels. I applied the decals and took them back to have another coat or lacquer. He also did the front oil cooler surround so as to blend in the fresh paint.
The finished result is as good if not better than when they were new and the cost of all the painting was £30
The decals were about £30 from Image works.
So for an outlay of about £100 plus my time I have a lovely bike now (with a dodgy speed sensor doh)
I picked myself a new exhaust and link pipe last week from Moto Italia in Silverstone and the bike now sounds as good as it looks.
Hope you like my pictures, Its not in the same league as some of the builds seen here but I am dead chuffed with how its turned out
Before:
Now back together, I have put some paint shield on the front where the tyre chucks road gravel back near the oil cooler :thumbup
