Question for fellow Aprilians .......

What model year RSV Mille's did NOT have the Wind Deflectors/ears fitted?

I ask because ..... due to popular demand I'm looking into producing the ears for these models. The kit will consist of:

Left and Right ears/deflectors
All fixings bolts/screws/studs whatever is decided on

The design of the ears will initially be based on the ear below ( cheers Smiffy :thumbup )

I'm aware that the ear design in the picture isn't a good fit on the earlier models, especially where they fix underneath. The new design ears will be a good fit when they are finished :devious

Is there anyone local to Malton / Kirkbymoorside that could allow me access to their earlier model year bike to perfect the fit/fitting ? Preferably on a Saturday morning :dunno

The said Guinea pig would of course be handsomely rewarded :biggrin

Pre 01 bikes had a different nose cone mate.

It was more rounded at the lower edge and had a different size headlamp and 3 grooves/lines moulded in to the fairing either side of the headlamp.

I'm sure a willing volunteer will appear soon. (I know I would, if I had a earless RSV)

Anything from 2001 and below

Good mod this one.

Have a look on the map for suitable members.

cheers for that Gents :thumbup

Pre 01 it is then :biggrin

Its the rounded underneath of the cone i need to mould from. The lines/grooves are also a concern because i believe they may encrouch where the pictured ears seat naturally so may have to mod that area also ....

Problem is most of the Northerers are posh and have newer models or just shy ...:biggrin

The fitting to the donor bike will probably last around 2 hours

LOL Posh northeners, no chance Steve. :dowhat

Remember I am a reformed northener and can tell when a northeners lying. :nana

Plus I saw you use a mug for a cup of tea the other morning, posh folk use china cups mate, so I've been told. :dunno

I seem to remember Garvey fitted some ears and did a how to guide, check out the how to files for his fitting guide, it may help.

im only in Boro, will glady let you mess with my very old rsv..lol

Yeah 98 -01 no ears. My 99 had no ears and for me, I think it looks better with.

I fitted some to mine, which I thought looked ok but the problem I found is the bottom of the cowl is more rounded than the 01-03 and the bottom part of the ear bracket is nore right angled. once you start pulling at this to have a smooth fit, you start to loose the shape of the ear.

Did a quick how to on it here if it helps.

Looking at two weeks from now for the early batches my friend....

Pricewise ... just for the deflectors / ears themselves I'll be looking for £ 1000. But to fellow zoners I'll give a discount of £ 945.

Not explored the fixing situation yet but there may be a small amount to add on for the fixings if required.

Is that for one ear or both :dunno :biggrin

Noooo......!

pre 01's are imo the best looking models. I do like the post 01's but they're overstyled compared to the more simple lines of the early model

just my 2pence worth

I have some fitted to my 2000 Mille and they are a bit of a piss fit. I only fitted them as the holes were already drilled and it was easier to refit some than fill the holes at the moment. The Bottom is more rounded as suggested earlier, and when you screw them up they do bend and distort a bit. The other bit to be carefull about is the ridge that runs alond the front as this can get in the way of a flush fit. If they are mounted farther back so not to mess with the ridge, then they do just touch the brake and clutch lever on full lock. Also the mounting holes mess with the inner air duct moulding. Good luck on making some good fitting ones, I'm intersted for one. . . .

Almost completed the prototype set ........................

I'm away all weekend so gonna do my best to at least get some progress pictures up tomorrow ..........
