My road and track bike have been sitting for about a month now and have not been started, i have the batteries disconnected and neither are on an optimate, i seem to be having a problem with both bikes as they both started of the button after i connected the batteries up.

Anybody got any ideas what the problem might be?

Is it aliens, the downturn in the economy or that duvet that you've had the batteries nestling in????

It's down to the neat Glenfiddich in the tank and the lack of miccies in the shed.

clearly the taste of your waders killed them all off last year :dowhat

The only downside being that they will wobble down the road and hiccup and fart every 20 yards till you get some motion lotion in there.

All very good answers, but unfortunately it started again this morning peeps, first press of the button, there must be someone with a cure:dunno

Spoonz, the neat Glenfiddich was in my tank (read stomach), the mice are all drunk as well as i doused the cheese in a 16 year old Caol Ila:pirate

I'm sad to say that the charactieristic your two machines are displaying is unique and is not a common issue with this marque (so there is hope should you want another at some point) - I can only offer you my condolences and a possible solution would be to sell both (note I would not mention this issue to suspecting buyers - afterall you do want a sale!!). I would probably go for an older model Ducati should you not want to suffer this same issue :devious

I had heard they start on the button if you last rode it like a big hairy fairy.

Sure that doesn't apply to you Badger, just what i heard.

It's in the tech manual under F i believe. :devious

Only one solution Badger, thats to dumpt the ytx14sbs and get yourself a ytx12 battery :thumbup

Alternatively .................pm me your address and I will pop round and swap one of your engines for mine !!!! :)

Been thinking about this and my thoughts are to let the battery go a bit flat then try starting it by rapidly pumping the throttle till i smell petrol, and turning the starter for 3 or 4 minute bursts at a time, what d'ya think:dunno

Mine was sitting outside under a cover for 2 weeks with battery connected but not on charge (forgot) and it started first time on Saturday :rant I think an official recall is required :eatcorn This is not what I was led to believe owning an Aprilia was about :dunno

Can i borrow your secret as mine hasnt turned a wheel since october, still in a million bits.
Am a bit worried though Badger, have you tried leaving your lights on while weeing in your exhaust?

Oh Ball's Think this must be a long lost thread from a Honda Site.....................else everybody is on drugs & dreaming that their apes are starting !!!

temperature change or maybe the altitude if you set the idle on the very edge???? did you move your bike. How's the weather out there? I have to change my quick idle setting quite often since the altitude sometimes differ up to 5000ft on my trips. it doesn't start until you change the setting or use the choke...

I am gonna leave them all week without starting them, at the weekend i will try and start them both and if they fire up first time..................well **** it i am putting them on the bay of fleas, i have had enough of this starting first time *****:angry

Great tips and thoughts guys, none seem to be working though:dunno

This site is brilliant for all the knowledge and over the top helpful peeps:thumbup

try setting fast idle to max, throttle to full and place in 1st gear......................then hit starter button

also check your selenoid, or start it with a spoon or a copper object between the red and the black cable on the Selenoid, don't let it ark lol I melted a pair of scissors. I haven't had a problem since a while since I started leaving my battery on the charger and the wire mod and the cleaning of the battery terminals and the selenoid... Try to start them with a car battery if it starts your batteries might be fooked. lol I'm not a mechanic or pro but I think your problems are due to battery and/or Temperature or Idle Adjustment related since both of them fail to start and both of them start at the same time. BTW did you fuel them from the Same gas container? I used to get a lot of ****** Gas in California, who knows you might have some bad gas/water in your tanks... don't sell your babies man keep those or I will come down there and burn all your rubber in 12 hours on both of them! lol good luck!
