Aup All, my 2012 model seems to have developed a problem with the throttle response? It is very noticeable at aroung 6500 to 7500 revs, if I am riding with a steady throttle there is a slight hunting, but if I open the throttle quickly there is a loss of drive for a brief moment and then it snatches forward? It seems to be doing it through the rev range but is more noticable around this engine speed. It is very off putting when I go to drive out of a corner, after a closed throttle and there is a lurch in power? I had it in for service a few hundred miles ago and they said they had uploaded a new engine map? Could this be the issue? Although it has only started doing it in the last few days? The only thing I have done recently is changed the front tyre? I've checked the front wheel sensor and all looks ok? No error messages either? Any info would be much appreciated. CHEERS!

Hmm, no replies yet, so I'll say this much- get the ball rolling. Maybe you've already checked the spark plugs, Ht leads, oil levels and checked for leaks at the air box? Sounds like a good idea to check as much of the loom as possible. Just guessing. CHeck for a kinked fuel line too.

Cheers for that, I haven't checked any of those because I've just paid over 400 quid for a service and would have hoped they did a good job? I will have a look to see if there is anything obvious?

Yeah, everyone on here will also tell you to get in touch with whoever serviced it and get them to put it right.

relpied on af1,

here what i said

i noticed that the latest map made my bike hard to ride, it was as if she had cheated on me lol

did you notice it from day of the service? if not how often do you ride, maybe bad gas? or demand sensor could be failing? or throttle cable is tight? they may have oiled the filter

thats all i can think without getting it on guzzidiag!

if its just a regular service do it your self, i dont trust any one but my self, if your unsure take pics, if you remove wires mark them with tape,

my buddy had his pads changed and the fitted the retainer wrong caused the brakes to bind, he crashed and burned!!!

Cheers, I do do the basic services but it was a 12500 service including valve check. I haven't ridden it much since, due to an injury sustained in my first race :( So could be fuel? I have just phoned the dealer who serviced it and he said try injector cleaner as it sounds like one may not be firing correctly. Does anyone know a good quality cleaner? Would it be worth filling with 98 instead of 95 for a couple of tanks? CHEERS for the info.

Totally agree about servicing, I had vowed not to touch this bike myself when I bought it. To have all the servicing done by pros, but the first guy kept giving me it back with the chain way to tight, and after the last one there the brake fluid had obviously gotten over the lid of the reservoir, which corroded, my tail light was cracked (could have been before the service I guess) and I had spark plug issues. Will be doing what I can myself from now on.

Dunno bout injector cleaner, sorry. But as a side thought, I read somewhere that its common to damage the head gasket when removing for service, maybe check for leakage there too?

every one will have a opinion on injector cleaners, the yanks will say seafoam,

ive used the lucas cleaner very small bottle, you can get it any where,

id get some cleaner, fresh fuel in container, syphen out old crap, refill, head to pet station fill up add, cleaner go for a ride! woth checking the other things before you head out

were the valve out of spec?

No the valves were ok (if they actually checked them? ). Will check gasket for leaks. And do a clean. CHEERS :)

Just a thought, if they did the valves, maybe they have disturbed the breathers on the base of the airbox. Worth a look! !

Throttle bodies balanced?? It's got 13,000 mile on it, it's barely run in? The gsxr k5 I had before did 43,000 with just tyre changes! ;) Is this a common problem?
Will have a look Gray.

I just balanced the throttle bodies on mine last week @ 10.5k miles and they were well out. More noticeable at part throttle opening and lower speeds, but now nice and smooth once again.

'Scuse the ignorance...is throttle balancing same or different to throttle learning? I assume different!

balancing the throttle bodies is done on the aprilia diagnostic tool . its a bit like balancing carburettors with a manometer type tool or the vaccuum gauge type affair that davida sell .
its a routine to set up carbs/ throttle bodies so they all suck and meter fuel at the same rate , therefore ensuring that the combustion chambers have the same amount of fuel to run smoothly .

You don't need to plug the bike in to the diagnostic tool to balance the throttle bodies. You can do it the old fashion way with vacuum gauges as I did.

You need to balance the front pair together, then the rear pair and the ecu balances the front and rear automatically.

This is done by connecting the vacuum gauges inline from the throttle body vacuum tubes that run to the air pressure sensor for each bank with a T piece. Then adjust the air bleed screw on one side only. Either pot 1 or 3. Do not open them both as one should remain closed and the other throttle body should be adjusted to match that one. Same for the rear bank.

Ok, checked for leaks, wiring connections and so on, checked for faults with guzzidiag and nothing showing, run 2 tank fulls of 98 through it and no different, just added some injector clean, so will run with that for a bit. Not balanced the throttle bodies as I haven't got the gear. Back to the dealer if the cleaner doesn't work? :(

Get the dealer to download the old map, take it for a good run and see if you can rule out the map as an issue. If the dealer has a dyno ask him to do a power run with both maps to check out the Air/Fuel Ratio.
You could spend a lot of time chasing this fault, but I would definitely recommend going back to the dealer first. Be forceful with them and don't be fobbed off by them.
