Guys,
Got my Aprilia Mille delivered yesterday, just bought it. Its a year 2000 Gen 1 that has been modified a bit. It was a runner, I saw it running when I viewed it. Got it home today and seller said it would be wise to replace fuel, check plugs etc. It doesnt have an MOT I have it booked in for Friday. I removed the tank, and air box to check it over, drain fuel, flush with fresh fuel, re drain and then topped it up with 10 ltrs and a squirt of Redex to clean its system down. It has been standing for a while last on the road in 2019. I also removed the tail section to have a look to see whether Solinoid had been unpgraded, and what eprom it had in it. Just really checking what I had bought really.
Mods identified are:
New jester body kit, and a really funky digital dash, after market racing dash in a carbon surround, which is nice but makes it impossible to read any fault codes as original dash is long gone.
Open air box conversion
Titanium slipon, make unknown
there is mention of collector mod, but didnt get belly pan off to check as just wanted to get it fit to drive to MOT station.
Eprom has white label on it saying RSV 01-03 (Racing) F255
Has steering damper fittted
Half fitted Oxford hot grips, now disconnected, half fitted USB and *** lighter socket again now removed.

When I refitted the ecu box, was very careful with plugs etc I did find a double green wire with a rubber elbow cover over a femail spade connector, cant for the life of me find what it was meant to connect to. Also found a cut wire taped up coming from a large white multi connector - with an in line fuse in it. again a lead going no where and no obvious end to say I had pulled something off by mistake. Final wire found on left side under seat, connected to a 3 pin connector, two of the wires are spliced together the two outer ones, brown and black from memory and again from memory a green wire about 4 inch long just ending in a peice of tape,
I did take the opportunity to pull the fuel pump etc out of the tank so I could clean the tank it down better, its a metal tank and has a bit of rust in it, so cleaned it out thoroughly then rinsed it out with couple of litres fresh fuel and drained it again, then topped it up with fresh fuel and redex. There are two vent pipes in the tank secured to base of fuel filler unit. I had to remove those to get fuel pump unit out etc and must admit could have mixed those up going back it as didnt mark which pipe went to which short vent outlet, but that shouldnt stop it running. I think they only control fuel vaccume lock and maybe overspill from topping up?

Have done all the usual, 6 hours of checking a re checking, fuel, ht leads, sparks, plugs. Have good spark on all 4. Fuel is getting to banjo by injector under pressure, so fuel pump etc all going ok. Did manage to get it to splutter on easy start, and nearly caught once or twice in the first hour of the 6 I have been working on it, but nothing since then.
I am pretty handy, an Exc Marine engineer etc, but this has me stumped, which is a bit gutting as was keen as mustard to get it up and running and MOTd. Its a great bike. Plugs been in and out a couple of times to keep them cleaned, gaps checked etc.

Hope somebody can shed some light, maybe put my mind at rest re floating wires to nowhere etc. I desperately want to give my new to me dream bike a run, any advice gratefully received.

Identifying eprom would be a help as well, thnk it might be an early race chip, from maybe Forza?

Hi Guys,
Well couldn't sleep on it and put another hour into it last night.
Most of the mystery solved re wires to nowhere issue and starting problem.

Wire on left side that had the brown and ground "JACKED" is the remnants from removing the side stand switch I believe.

The two green wires that I thought ended in a femail spade connector inside a rubber elbow on closer inspection were indeed 2 green wires with a male and femail spade connector, logic said join them, so I did. Turned the bike over and it burst into life shortly, so hopeful that may be some form of mod.

My eprom appears to be a Gabro F255, that was matched to a collector mod and the Evo open airbox work done back in 2006 ish. This bike appears to have been a track day warrior at times in the past, at 60 yrs old not sure I will be hitting the track anytime soon but will see if I can wind back some of the mods over time. May try a softer eprom map, and maybe re instigate the original air box setup.

The spare feed from the large white connector near the ecu on the rear right still remains a mystery but pulled the 10a fuse in the holder and heat shrunk it up for investigation at a later day.

Removed the belly pan and can confirm full collector mod has been fitted, so that may help with any 3k revs misbehaviour and will have to see how it all runs on the road.

So making progress, going to pick up milder eprom, as things have probably moved on in 14 yrs since F255 was cut, will see but they look cheap enough to buy a couple and see.

Only ran for a few seconds last night, neighbours wouldn't appreciate the sound of rolling thunder the titanium can gives out at 11pm when I kicked it over.

Be interesting to see what this "mille" goes like after its checkered past. Most of the upgrades appear to be "state of the art circa mid 2000's" wonder if much has changed. Learning lots about the bike, it is well made. Beautiful to look out "that said" jury still out re the jester body kit!. But quality of plastics and the colour scheme is growing on me.

Comparing to the Triumph 2007 sprint, build quality better, tech re ecu is more primative, on the triumph just plug in my laptop with Tune Ecu fired up and remap away till my hearts content, changing eproms seems nicely old school.
But idle screws and cold start leavers etc seem somewhat very old school. Just looked at threads re the slipper clutch mods etc. That looks like another interesting journey for some. But maybe just a track thing, clutch doesn't seem too heavy, and why buy a big twin if you don't want engine braking etc. But my previous bike to my Sprint was Suzuki "DR Big" so a bit of engine braking will be nice.
Let's see how it goes.
