Cleaned my bike the other day ,, and noticed that my chain has been rubbing on my tyre !!! :dunno Its was a new tyre 190/50 zr17 !!!

Any ideas !!!

Is there any play in the links, how many miles has the chain done, is you rear wheel done up, I once did a track day with a loose rear wheel, never got the chain rubbing on the tyre though, are you 100% that it is the tyre

My bike does it too Gasboy, it's a known problem with some tyres on some RSV's. One possible explanation is the make of tyre that's fitted, Michelin? Apparently the Michelin tyre carcass is slightly wider than other makes of tyre. My chain just catches with a 190/50 Michelin but i've run it for over 4000 miles and it's fine, it just wears a little mark on the very very edge of the tyre. Changing to a larger rear sprocket seems to exaggerate the problem. Keep an eye on it and make sure your chain is correctly tentioned and equally adjusted each side. It's still an odd one though as my old 2002 RSV ran 190/50's fine whereas this 2002 RSV R just catches with the chain running the same 16/44 gearing. All other things being correct, the only solution is to go with a 180/55 :thumbup

That explains why you were going so slow in france:confused

Sounds like wheel alignment to me...check the marks both sides of the swing arm......i got a 190 michelin and there is a gap between the chain and tyre

Gasboy, check with rs3mille as he had the same problem as I recall :devious but now all sorted :thumbup

Think the problem is on the older models only buddy, as I run a Michelin 2ct 190/50 with no drama's :thumbup

just a quick one fellas
1. are we all talking about the same tyre here?
2 have we all changed the ront sprocket gearing at some point because it is possible to fit the sprocket the wrong way round isnt it....... they are sided....

:stupid I recently changed my front sprocket (and as fusebox suggests it does matter which way they're fitted) and took me a while to get the correct adjustment on the 190 tyre as there's not much room to spare before it touches the chain....
