lol ... I thought as much

No harm done ...

I tallied up today and over 30 years I've had 7 bikes and only 6 x helmets

I guess it's all down to budget and vanity. I cannot afford to spend £600 £500 nor even £300 on something which offers no more protection than something costing say £90.

At £195 the AGV is the most expensive lid I've ever bought and the screaching in the lugs is a bitter disappointment.

The lid has all the spaces and cable ways to fit a blue tooth kit ... but this would be utterly impossible to use above 10 mph

The bright yellow Roof RO10 would really initiate a fashion police raid; bearing in mind my leathers are black and red.

There's a second hand Roof R020 Cobra going on e-bay for about £50 which needs a new visor ... which would be another £50

I might just buy £20 of ear plugs and say feck it

Went helmet shopping today on e-bay and shops

- and found that the one I fancy is a Schuberth S1 pro.

Marvellous

£499 = not so marvelous

Also found a Shoie Quest for £350 ...

An X-lite fpr £190

A Givi foir £153

A Maraushin for £150

Another Marausin for £90

Well it is my birthday soon ... so I will have "something"

HJC AC-15 Carbon fibre. Brilliant summer lid, kinda loud. Shoei RF 1000, my fave lid hands down and the go to on any long trips for fit, finish, and comfort. AGV Stealth, St Andrews, worn when out for a hoolie ride or at the track. Tight as ****, loud! as it flows a lot of air to keep me kool at the track. Scorpion X700 that fits beautifully.... as long as I don't have to wear my glasses. Next lid? Another Shoei in the RF 1100 series. Mebbe with custom paint. All these lids fit my long oval head quite well. The AGV V-flyer St Andrews fit my chin better than the Stealth, as the Stealth has my manly chin resting on it. Hope this helps.

BTW, make sure you try a helmet on before buying. I CAN NOT get a Suomy or Shark on my bonce with a good fit.

Thanks gadgie ... I love the write up!

"For insatiable Arai provides an option also taken additional air , called Delta Duct for insertion into the ventilation hole positioned in front of the helmet , which as standard is occluded".

I'll see if I can find one in a shop to try on - it's amazing how the shape of ones noggin can make such a huge difference between lids.

Yes indeed.

I tried a Shark Vision-R yesterday. It was great side to side but rocked back and forth so nfg at all.

The Schuberth is a fantastic fit and when you look at the head hole it's really tiny ... so the padding forms a good seal. (No jokes about "good seals" please)

j&s are selling dainese performance helmets cheap haggle hard got mine for £50 i also bought some other stuff
really pleased very quite and came with pin lock & breath guard only prob is replacement visor £60 clear or tint

Welly or anybody else for that matter if you fancy an Arai or Shoei try looking at Padgetts batley wesy yorksire site they have a load of old models at very reasonable prices & the chick there is very helpful. I nearly got rid of a brand new shoei xr1100 earlier this year cos it felt like a good fit but started to rise upo my bhead at anything over a ton. Went back to J&S's they couldn't do anything about altering the fit. went to Demon Tweeks same story. Then Sharon at Padgetts sorted me out with some replacement cheek pads that made the helmet fit a treat. Now use the Shoei as my everyday helmet. Matt Black so a bit boring but easier to get on & off that my Arai's which I reserve for special occasions. Have Got a Chaser, Astro r & Astro J like them all & visor change is a sinch once you get the hang of it.

Us Canadians like a "tight seal"... just sayin'

Newelly I've got an Arai Condor after the father in law dropping my AGV Ti Tech. The AGV I found noisy and quite a tight fit around the lug holes. The Arai is good enough for me and was bought as a present from the wife for a good price but doesn't have removable interior. I find it doesn't give much room at the front of the lid though and although my nose doesn't touch the visor it aint far away. I'd prefer a lid with a bit more depth at the front tbh.

Think if I was buying another I'd just go and try on a few.

Mate I remember you posting the story about FIL dropping your lid ... and I think I replied about mine flooding the feckin house changing a shower that didn't need changing ... outlaws! Who'd have em?

I'm in love with the fit of the Schuberth ... but my goodness ... they are spensive!

Anyway ... nice to see more of you on here.

a good helmet ?

been reading all yer comments.

imo. a good fit is most important, if its to loud at speed, or uncomortable in any way, its ****. i,ve had em all over the years, and coz i have an odd shaped noggin i,ve gone fer some very odd brands, yer know i,ve even forgotten what my current lid is, as i took all the branding off. (its a flip front and white).

i still have in the loft the most exspensive lid i ever bought, its now getting on to 35yr old, a bell open face, i think it was £40 ... at the time about a months wage...

would i use it today ? would i ****.. its actually turned cream, all by itself. think i may write to bell to express my concern.

:yes...I bought one of the very first Bell Star helments that came into the UK, and yes, they were pricey at the time...
Mine was bright orange, I thought I was as cool as **** when wearing it ...:thumbup
:rolleyes It must have looked like a ******* big orange stuck on my shoulders from a distance....what a **** :lol

My Ti Tech was a great fit other than around the ears. It used to bedn them down and ache like **** after about half hour. The Arai is a better lid by far but hasn't got the removable liner. Its not like I ride every day though so is fine. I might invest in another lid this summer. Think I'd just have a look what was in sales at the time
