does anybody know the life span of a helmet, i was told you should change your helmet after about 5 years. a mate of mine has got one in his cupboard at home in its box never used:dunno but he has had it about two years, does this mean its only got three years life to go or does the five years start when you start to use it and it gets exposed to the elements.

no, its from the start of use - hair and skin oil & sweat, sunlight, knocks etc all wear and degrade the helmet shell and internal foam. If its unused and not been dropped then there can be no wear!!

******, a helmuts fir life mucker, that said once yer had a few weans yer pal hus nae use fir it anymore.:bawling

as an extention of Whiteys helmet (ooooerrrr matron) and apologies for hijacking the thread :hail

I have an AGV Stealth which looks lovely (why I bought it) but which is very noisy and screachy around the lugs

I had a Roof full face ... which was absolutely excellent ... but obs won't go with my T

I had a Roof flip front Boxer ... which was utterly ****

Lucie has an HJC which is very good indeed

Simpson look the nuts ... but are widely regarded as pash

Craft look nice ... but receive mixed reviews

There was a post on here about a guy recovering from an accident - with vid of him, his ****, his bird blowing him and his lovely looking red and white Airoh TR1 ... which gets rave reviews for looks and **** reviews for padding, noise and fit

My question is this ...

What lids do we think are good :clap

What lids do we think are **** :jack

What lids do we think are **** and still buy / wear? :fou

I have heard that its more related to the miles its covered, 30,000 miles was a distance that was suggested -makes sense I suppose.

Obviously bangs & knocks will affect this.

Newlly - my best lid to date is a crabon fibre Nitro.

I bought one with an integral flip down sun visor thing - anyone considering this, dont bother & get a basic version, seems like a good idea but in practice its poor.

Bad fit around my nose / cheeks etc & distorts vision a bit.

Shoei all the way for me.Fit,finish and venting are first class.Got an X-Spirit for riding the T and the Raid when I'm on the old classics.
Tried Arai's but found they were noisy and after a couple of months, they fitted like a bucket. Was'nt impressed with the visor change system either.Very nearly broke the bloody thing.

olaf if this was your best helmet what was the good points, bad fit around my nose/cheeks etc & distorts vision.

Arai for me. 3 Quantums, 2 RX7's. I had an old Kenny Roberts AGV which was very good and tried a stealth on this basis, however the stealth came nowhere near it really. Still a nice lid though.

Looked into this a bit earlier in the year & sold all my old helmets due to their age. From what I understand it is from when you start using the thing & will depend on the obvious things such as dropping banging against objects etc etc. However A helmet that occasionally used and is well looked after kept in its helmet bag away from UV light in temperate storage conditions should last much longer than the specified 6 ??? years than ,manufactreres reccomend.

******, with it being carbon fibre it is lighter & it seems to put less strain on my neck on a good run.

The visor change system seems to work well, it has the double glazing system that works in the rain but still gets steamed up in the cold.

This may because of the draft excluder system on the lower & upper chin guard. No problems when I hold my breath though.

It seems to be quieter than previous helmets, or I could be getting deafer.

My only gripe is with the integral visor, which is an option that I dont use much any way.

thats what i like if i can get it is a quiet helmet and one that doesnt steam up thanks olaf

Out fer a spin today ... only 4'C so a bit tippy toes

For a trial I wore my old Roof Diversion (bright yellow with black visor clashes with the T darling!)

Note

At below 20mph it really steamed up ... but ok if cracked open 1 x notch
It is WAY quieter than my AGV ... the difference is astonishing
I am going to sell my AGV ... it is ****
I am now looking at Nitro, Roof and Shark

Comments anybody?

Would anybody like to buy a barely used AGV? ... I hear they are very good!

welly how much der yer want fir yer **** lid???

How many times did yer offload in the fecker?

Whit a feckin Consumer Society we live in.

Ma Hemuts **** it only cost £300+.

A bought it cause 'am a feckin ****** and the one a had wis ........................

Sometimes a think yer all need an injection of Real Life ya Pandered *****'s.

Amin, I like your lid. I know what you mean about "real life" Saying that, my last Arai did me for 12 years, so I think a wee bit extra for the long service life and comfort is nae too bad.

Rough night last night was it Aldo?

The point I was trying to make was that I bought my AGV on looks alone and without reading any reviews.

What I wish I'd done ... oh **** off.

:cheers
