reading the daily mail on line ( I know, but i'm bored) and there's a fella been pulled up for something or rather on his fireblade wearing his helmet cam. Apparently the police confiscated his memory card and found 150 clips of him giving it some, 110 in a 30, 150+, wheelies etc. (give him credit, he's 60). Gone to court and been jailed for 2 years, and has to serve at least 1. My points are: sentence bloody harsh and wipe your memory card between rides, or maybe i'll just leave the camera at home from now on.
 
Haven't had camera on my bike for a while after all the bad publicity, glad I didn't buy a go pro
 
Yep that's the way of the rozzers nowadays,will fook about doing somebody for something that,TBH honest if you filmed everybody we would all be banned and that includes the rozzers themselves,bar stewards all of them in my opinion :thumbdown

deffo no hero cam for me ,or sat nav for that matter . sat nav info can be used against you too .

woulnt mind getting a basic dash cam thats got no speed recording faciity tho ,

changed the car several months ago and it just seems to be an arsehole magnet .

as in it seems to attract wankers who want to have a go , get too close and sit on the back bumper !!.

mebbee the beemer and audi crowd see an alfa as a threat .
 
Cameras can also be a good thing if someone crashes into you.
You'd think the bloke using it wold have had the sense NOT to record his speedo.
Also, I remember reading a while back the polis have no legal right to take the camera or memory card.
 
I also thought that the police had no rite to seize video but after a bit of googling it appears they can if they think it might have some evidence of a crime on it, so that covers speeding ect. If you refuse to share they can apparently throw more **** at you. Won't be taking mine with me anymore tbh.
 
I recall a biker from S-Wales getting pulled over on the A470, by a Police speed 'Hairdryer' camera crew approx 15yrs ago. They spied his tank mounted camera and asked him to replay it for them. When he refused they insisted, or they would arrest him. It unfortunately showed him running at up to 150, including over 100 around blind bends allegedly. Can't recall if he got a prison sentence but he lost his licence and had a hefty fine.

The rozzers basically just do what they want and say what they want especially when it comes to bikes for some unknown reason :crazy
 
Given the footage I reckon inside is the best place for the rider. They'd be 6 ft under soon riding like that! Just seen footage on sky news and it needs to be seen to be believed.
 
I think they have to have reasonable grounds to believe an offence had been committed though. So if you come pootling round the bend you 'might' want to ask them on what legal basis are they asking you to do so? Better still, check out the legal basis first!

Of course, we all 'only' use goPros to record drivers who pull out in front of us!! Why else would a biker have a dash cam??

Point taken but when you watch these Police camera action programs the car chases are horrendous and they are in a stolen car usually and still get a lighter sentence compared to a biker who TBH is generally only putting himself at risk,my point is there's a time and a place but I can't honestly believe anyone on here hasn't given there bike a good try out at some point :yes
 
Blade, I broadly agree with you. For me, it depends how fast he traveled across junctions. The biggest risk arises where a motorist pulls up at a junction, looks right, sees a bike in the distance, reasonably assumes he had loads of time to pull out as the bike is just a dot and the limit 30mph, and does so, only for the bike to end up embedded in the front or back seat of the car. Some very nasty accidents like that... which could have happened to any of us, and family/friends.

But nowadays you can lose your Lucerne for doing 36mph in a 30mph limit, on dual carriageway (such as coming out of Leicester city Center)... and motorists are treated harder than some real criminals... so sentencing isn't perfect... by far.
 
Just got speed letter from driving the wife's Yaris 37 in a30 going for hotel session if they let me, so easy to pick up points on a bike these days?
 
it's all about road safety (or so they tell us)

yeh right, just an extra tax that we get to pay

I would feel a hell of a lot safer on the roads if i didn't have to constantly look down at my speedo to keep an eye on what speed i am doing and constantly scouring the country side for mr plod sitting behind a tree or corner or coming up the road.

If you do, you need to tell your insurance company about it. There was an article recently where an insurance company invalidated the policy as they had not been informed about the course. It claimed the police were telling punters you did not have to report it but you do!

Having seen the edited footage I can't understand how anyone can say he was only putting himself at risk!
He was overtaking on double white lines and pulling crap wheelies as he did so. While I agree a jail sentence is a bit harsh I think a long ban was appropriate.
Unfortunately showing off is the scourge of biking and he was old enough to know better.
Before any of you come back with " I bet you've sped etc" then yes I have ( private road officer!) but there's a time and place and busy roads full of traffic isn't it.
Just my opinion mind.
