Hello and TPS Problem

Hi all, I've been kicking around on and off for a while, but now I need some specific help I thought I'd post up and ask my question, that I haven't found an answer to after searching.

I've got a '99 RSV, few miles on the clock, been fine for the time I've had it, that was until after christmas.

Uncovered the bike after christmas and got DIAG 1 on the screen. Now I've done all the things that I've read about and even got to the point of getting another Throttle Position Sensor for a pretty price, suffice to say it didn't work.

Been back out today to strip it all down and try again. Set the TPS to read 0 when in the diagnostic mode. Left it on whilst I rebuilt everything and it was still reading 0 on the screen - I thought I had it cracked!

I then put everything back together and pull it out of Diagnostic mode, turned it on and all was well for about 3 seconds, then I get DIAG 1, then DIAG -1 :rant

Does someone, no, anyone, have any ideas as to what I can do next? I have no idea as to what else to do. I am getting continuity to earth on the blue/red wire, and I have got continuity between the brown/yellow, brown/white and their ECU connections.

I just want my water temp and clock back....

Hiya, dunno if it helps much, but heres what i have:

Good info Beanie my man! UKken it looks like you left/forgot the diagnostic wires connected. undo them if you want your clock and temp back. here's the pictorial how to do it. I'm sure you will remember they are burried under the right rear fairing with two hex bolts. the TPS sensor is a ***** and it keeps moving when you think that you fixed it right. mine moves cuz I ride very aggressivesly and I had wheels with bumps and cables showing which was causing UltraSonic Super Yellow Vibrations. lol

here's my pictorial of how I adjusted my TPS to Zero! and follow the instructions From Beanie and excuse my English. best of luck

you might accidently disconnect the SPEEDO sensor which is goes next to the the battery! look at the image below. I had done that mistake and the Jakes pulled me over for speeding with my date right after clubbing. lol

double check and make sure you disconnect the right cable! I'm very sure you didn't disconnect the right cable or accidentally left it hanging in a bad spot which might short to Ground by one of the hot connectors or the cable(check for damage) which puts it in the "Forever Dealer Mode" . aright I made that word up however check your cables. I'm sure it's something simple . You could ave accidently stripped the dealer cables while putting the panel on also. Let us know man. cheers

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm starting to think that I might have a wiring fault somewhere on the bike, as I used superyellows method to adjust the tps yesterday.

When I had the dealer cables joined, whilst setting the TPS, I had 0 on the screen for over 5 minutes, no issue. As soon as I had finished reassembling everything, I switched off, disconnected the dealer cables, and now it shows an alternating 1 / -1. If I put it back into dealer mode I can get it to stay at 0 again, until I pull it back out of dealer mode.

After pulling it from dealer mode, it shows the clock and temp for about 3 seconds and then reverts back to 1/-1. Should I be trying to start it during this 3 seconds? I can't see how it would help, but it's about the only thing I haven't tried.

Mate, if this occurred whilst parked up under a cover then I would say you need to start by looking at all the electrical connectors for oxidisation.

Start at the ECU multi plugs and check that no terminals have been pushed back in the plug nor are they green looking.

If you check all the plugs on the bike and find nothing then I would start by doing continuity checks between the sensor wires and the ECU multi plug.

If that all checks out fine then dare I say it your ECU may be faulty. I'm pretty sure you have ECU and sensor testing guidance procedures written in the manual, follow them to the letter and you'll find the fault eventually.

Fault diagnosis is all about following a logical sequence of events and interpreting the data/values given. If you get stuck during this process then post up here and I'll try to help as best I can.

dude I'd put the probes on that bike in every copper piece until I fixed it all weekend just for borrowing an M24(i think/sounds like a weapon of some sort) socket man! lol and I'm also great that you have been Developing your Animal Strength . if you guys want to read more about this humorous article about the Super Animal Strength clicky here It cracks me up just to hear that Animal Strength. ROFLMAO . Save yourself a hassle spray some Electronics Cleaner in that area while jerking the cable, I think WD-40 works as I heard from some peeps on the forum I have never tried it though, I just don't wanna mislead you, verify the WD-40 before I usually use Gas for cleaning up everything. I still can hear 1000 Shrieking Dinosaurs when I touch gas.. Poor *******s would never had thought their decayed crap would cause so much trouble for the World Peace. Also try the old trick of shaking the heck out of the bike after pulling the Dealer cables out and see if the Dealer Mode would react to that also move some cables around and jerk some cables to see if something is shorting as I know yes you can start you bike on Dealer mode that's what's that mode is for so you can read the faults as the Engine and the other components run/work. if it goes away after cleaning and jerking the stuff around ride it aggressively and see if it will come back after all that vibrations. we have really Funked up freeways here and some parts of the 215 and 91 feels like a jack hammer up the wahzoo and the road if horribly bumpy...well I ride it on pegs to show off and to protect my balls from hurting/bruising them. lol update us so we can help you going bro and maybe one day we could Form the Aprilia Voltron with 3 more Refurbished Aprilias! ROFLMAO Fellow forum members please submit your Applications for the Refurbished Aprilia Voltron project below with your name and what part of the Voltron you desire to be! I'm gonna be the Left leg and I'mma kick some butt! Purr

Quick update on this guys, also need a little help off anyone that has 2 minutes spare and a multimeter.

Been over the bike, just finished today, absolutely everything has been checked, double checked, cleaned and reassembled.

All wires are fine, all connections are fine, bike still rides with no issues other than the screen thinking it is in dealer mode.

Only thing that I can find that makes me think is, it has an aftermarket chip fitted that I cannot identify and seeing that this seemed to of started after I replaced a very flat battery, I began thinking this could be the problem. What I have since found is that the dealer connector is now reading a very strange voltage, it is pulsing between 0 and 5v whilst the ignition is on. It is all over the place, and seeing as this is directly related to the chip in the ECU, I'm thinking it's fcuked.

Could someone with 2 minutes go and check the voltage of the dealer diagnostic plug (the one with 2 wires going to it) whilst the ignition is on? I'm expecting that it should read 5v constantly, which would mean that my ECU/chip is fubar'd.

Might of finally got to the bottom of this damne thing!
