Thank you for looking!

I just bought an rsv mille ´01 with 19200 miles on the clock. There is some oil spill (we call it sweeting in denmark) from the camshaft gasket. Do i need to replace, tighten it or ? and on the big wire to the starter the plastic cap has melted is that a tell tell of something bad to come or just normal ?

Best regurds

Hi mate, if the camshaft cover gasket is weeping just check the bolts are nipped down (to correct torque) ... if they are then it sounds like you need a new gasket which shouldnt cost too much.
As for the starter cable cap, just make sure the nut is tightened properly on the starter, it sounds like the cable is getting very hot which could be loose nut or a poor contact. whip it off and give it a clean, a bit of copperslip and tighten it back on (find a new cover as well!)
The Milles do have starting/charging issues which are relatively easy to iron out, just search the forum and you should find plenty of info.
hope this helps

Hi, I just browsed this thread and though I may be able to give some advice, I occasionally work with Hydraulics and I have been taught I its just as bad to over tighten certain bolts as its to have them loose. Over tightening them can also lead to oil leakage as you stretch the bolts and stop the two mating surfaces from sealing correctly - therefore never over tighten bolts more than what is recommended - you can end up 'chasing your tail' if you get what I mean

Sounds like a gasket problem, had the same with mine. Not to panic though because it does not cost much.
