Well the Honda is up for sale and I should really wait till it sells before buying a new bike but I’ve found a nice looking Mille, well it looks OK in the pics. ‘00my on a V, done 23K it’s in that purple/dk blue colour with floro red seat unit, some carbon and best of all it features RSV-R Ohlins forks, s-damper and goldline Brembos, The only thing I don’t like the look of is the blue tint screen but that’s easy enough to replace. So if it is lives up to expectations then it will be coming home with me. Is there any particular area I should pay special attention to when going to view it?

yep, a high CCA rating battery is good, 150 amp starter solenoid is a plus as well.
Check that the clutch slave cylinder is not weeping fluid.

Listen to it starting, any rattle or crunching noises could indicate a sprag on its way out.

Usual check frame for dinks around gear lever and rear brake lever for signs of a crash.

thanks for the replies I’ll try to look at the points mentioned, although I’m told the sprag clutch as been changed recently so that’s hopefully something less to worry about.

BTW how much should I be expecting to pay if it proves to be a OK looking bike without any obvious issues ?

I realise buying any used vehicle is a bit of a lottery and you can only do so much to ensure you don’t buy a dog with fleas, and to be honest this particular example is my least favourite colour scheme but the fact it as Ohlins forks and s damper is more important to me than the colours after all its easy and cheaper to source some plastics than the forks etc, I quite like the idea of picking up some used body work and painting them, it’ll give me something do over winter

As a guide I just sold a 99 V with 16k on it, black and grey colours, very good condition for its age, just had a big service by Griff (TB balance! valve clearance, CO2 etc), new chain and sprockets, new front pads, open can etc

I got £1600 for it, I could have got more if I held out but my new bike was coming so I need to make space.

Lift the tank and check inside the headstock for cracks , check the ohlins forks for leaks
In reality the brakes are the win win , the ohlins are an un-nessacery distraction
I'd say it's in the £1500- £2000 region , there's loads out there

thanks for the input, it's things like looking for headstock cracks that I wouldn't even have considered, and indeed needs examination given the Ohlins forks, Which on the face of it a good thing but who throws away perfectly good forks ? the forks were replaced for a reason, in the best scenario it was because the owner simply wanted better kit or it could be the bike as had a big shunt in which case R spec forks were fitted as replacements for the OE kit. cause for thought me thinks

My tip is look at the seller as much as the bike if they're shifty so is the bike go on the visa and gov websites to check NOT history etc and if the mileage was recorded in km its a bugger to get registered correctly other than that as others have said and if a plastic tank check for signs of swelling tight fit on getting the bolts back in can be a sign.
Ask about mileage on suspension items as they may need servicing

Any way ohlins forks...check the bottoms are not cracked where the pinch bolts are as they are prone to damage...walkjk,if they are as it's 400 quid repair

And while you're at it, check the fork seals are good. The Ohlins ones have a tendancy to go *pop* on a regular basis (compared to the boggo standard vanilla Showa forks that is).

Picking up my 2nd aprilia rsv mille sunday wanted to no if there's any mods I can get on it to upgrade it a little as it's an 02 ? Any ideas

Welcome along ...You are in tamworth home to aprilia performance

So 02 mods...modded airbox, redratbike modded collector, new EPROM to match this from forza aprilia

Then 16-44 gearing sorted.....there's a whole lot more if you want it..57mm throttle bodies, bigbore kit etc etc .

Had mine for just over a year and i still smile everytime i ride it even with 44k on the clock its a top bike
