Gen1 Plastic tank problem

Right Guys wondering if you have any ideas on this?

a mate at work has a friend with a Gen1 and the plastic tank is rippling and starting to crack where you would place your knee's. The rest of the tank is perfect, i have heard about the ethanol problem making the plastic tanks expand could it be this? or is there something else that could be causing this? The bike has only done 4000 genuine miles.

The ethanol seems only to cause a problem in the USA as their fuel has more ethanol in it
So I doubt it would be that never heard of a UK bike having that problem

my mate had some kind of plastic tank protectors on his bike that "rippled" he ripped them of and the problem was gone,maybe your mate has these fitted too.

I thought Gen 1's had metal tanks??

Only early ones had larger capacity metal tanks. They swopped em to plastic tanks which are smaller and bulge and get longer and shorter and are generally not as good. imo :roll
