Hi all, could anyone tell me the best gear ratio for the 00 mille :confused. Its probably been mentioned before but id like to know the original toothing and the best setting for the road, not bothered about top end speed i just want more acceleration :thumbup

Mmmm Badger is the man to ask he seems pretty clued up on the old gearing stuff.....:thumbup

Just older mate:biggrin

Standard is 17/42 on your model mate, go with 16 front and try it first, if you want more then stick a 44 on the rear, do the front first coz you might find that is enough for you:thumbup

Great information and a good reply. Can someone comment on a 520 conversion? Do they work as well as the ads say?

Ive noticed that my chain is an endless one, so if im going to change the front sprocket will i be able to loosen the chain enough to get the sprocket off and will i be needing a special too to get it off :confused

Yo i thought so :thumbup, never had an endless chain so wasn`t sure :thumbup, what about the sprocket will i be needing a special tool to prise it off :confused

Oh yeah, no special tool just a socket set, its best if you undo the sprocket nut with the chain and wheel in place and the bike in gear it makes life so much easier.....:thumbup

Will do then :thumbup, only 3 days till i get the beast back and then ill start and try a few mods :thumbup

Not for the road mate, don't do it full stop for safety, fine on the track, you do gain some extra performance due to the motor not having to lug round all that extra weight, but the gains on the road are not worth it:biggrin

steve, make sure you put it on the right way round, check when you take the old one off, if you put it round the wrong way the chain will be out of line with it, it can be done without removing the wheel, slacken the spindle and push the wheel right forward in the swingarm, this should give enough slack, use some lockthread on the bolt when you put it back in

Oh so no point in doing the mod then, just thought i would sacrifice some top end speed for more acceleration and low down grunt but if you say its not worth it then i wont bother :thumbup

No no no, you are picking it up wrong mate, the 520 mod is not worth it for the road, 520 is a lighter weight of chain and sprockets really used in track work mostly, some fit it for the road (i have before) your chain and sprockets are 525 pitch, so to answer your question, YES it is well worth doing for you and anyone else riding on the road, serious track gearing is different yet again:thumbup

Ok badger guess i got the wrong idea all mixed up with gearing and pitch :confused, ill have a tinker and see what happens but the air box mod is first :thumbup

I can mail you a DIY mod for your bike if you fancy doing it yourself, with next to no cost at all for the mod, it's been on my bike for 18k miles and is faultless.

PM me your email address if you want it.:biggrin

Thanks Badger and Steve. Good answers!!:thumbup

Thanks Badger for sharing your voice of experience and when I need a chain change, I'll stick to the 525.:eatcorn

I will move to "one down" on the front and "two up" on the rear. With my rsvr being a six speed I will not notice the loss of top speed. It should make a huge diference in "quickness". :devious:devious Mine is a 2000 and I think I've heard that some of the later models are 5 speeds.:dunno

Cheers legs :thumbup, quite a lot of to go on now, thanks people :thumbup
