Hey guys, just a heads up for you. I went to wheel my T out the garage the other week and when i took the cover off there was a large dent on the top of the fuel tank. After i stopped crying, i phoned the Mrs to make sure she hadnt dropped something on it, which she said she hadnt. I was scratching my head wondering what had caused it, trying to remember if i'd lent on it whilst putting it away etc etc when i thought i'd open the filler cap to see if i could get something inside and try to pop it out. I opened the cap to a massive whoooosh of pressure and a pop/bang like a bloody firework going off in the garage and low and behold the tank popped right back into shape. I thought i must have overfilled the tank or something and after a "spirited ride" must have caused some kind of vacuum. Anyways, to cut a long story short, i went for a ride, next day same again. This time i left it as it was and rode straight to my dealers. The mechanic said he'd seen it once before and it was basically a problem with the breather hose (the one that runs down near where the front sprocket cover is). He whipped the tank off and sorted it out in ten minutes. I assume the pipe was kinked or squashed somewhere.
As its a new bike and had only the week before gone through its first service, i can only assume they had kinked the pipe when servicing it, as it never did it anytime during the first 600 miles. I told them i was a bit worried as the tank is plastic and it had been sucked in so much it might have lost some structual integrity blah blah and the paint may well flake eventually etc etc so they've ordered me a new tank.
Moral of the story, if you remove the tank be careful of the breather/over flow pipe when putting it back.
I know i should have took a snap of the whole top of the tank sucked in, as it really was like Giant Haystacks had been doing star jumps on it, but i was too distraught to think about it at the time!
