Hey guys, just a heads up for you. I went to wheel my T out the garage the other week and when i took the cover off there was a large dent on the top of the fuel tank. After i stopped crying, i phoned the Mrs to make sure she hadnt dropped something on it, which she said she hadnt. I was scratching my head wondering what had caused it, trying to remember if i'd lent on it whilst putting it away etc etc when i thought i'd open the filler cap to see if i could get something inside and try to pop it out. I opened the cap to a massive whoooosh of pressure and a pop/bang like a bloody firework going off in the garage and low and behold the tank popped right back into shape. I thought i must have overfilled the tank or something and after a "spirited ride" must have caused some kind of vacuum. Anyways, to cut a long story short, i went for a ride, next day same again. This time i left it as it was and rode straight to my dealers. The mechanic said he'd seen it once before and it was basically a problem with the breather hose (the one that runs down near where the front sprocket cover is). He whipped the tank off and sorted it out in ten minutes. I assume the pipe was kinked or squashed somewhere.

As its a new bike and had only the week before gone through its first service, i can only assume they had kinked the pipe when servicing it, as it never did it anytime during the first 600 miles. I told them i was a bit worried as the tank is plastic and it had been sucked in so much it might have lost some structual integrity blah blah and the paint may well flake eventually etc etc so they've ordered me a new tank.

Moral of the story, if you remove the tank be careful of the breather/over flow pipe when putting it back.

I know i should have took a snap of the whole top of the tank sucked in, as it really was like Giant Haystacks had been doing star jumps on it, but i was too distraught to think about it at the time!

Fakkin ell. Wot a kerfufle. Bit of a frightener seeing your tank like that, then it blew up on you.
Least you got it sorted and the dealer didn't seem to give you to much jip.
Thanks for letting us know, stuff like this is always handy to have .

You should have seen it Nobby. It was that bad i walked round the garden three times pretending i hadnt seen it, before going back to double check. Especially as Tanks are about £1500. Dealers were sound to be fair. Impressed with them so far. And the girl who sorts the warranty stuff out is very easy on the eye as a bonus :p

Other than the minor disaster hows the bike ?
Can't knock mine. Magnificent.

What a shock bud. I'd have been looking for a length of rope.
My breather is fine, I filled it up the other day, a bit too much and petrol was dripping from it.
Its worth checking tho' each time its had a service.

My sentiments exactly. You would not have been a a good state of mind to take any happy snaps of your tank imploding - none of us would.:eek

Mine drips fuel when I overfill it, so I know (like Grin Factor) that it's working.

These fuel/vac lines are all worth keeping an eye on anyways. They cause some of the most common problems we get on this forum.

My guess is that the breathers could be blocked at the base of the fuel tank. Mine were and neither could be blown clear. Lift the tank and you find these two tank breathers at the bottom right hand side at the rear of the tank. Unclip the 2 rubber pipes and unscrew the 2 breathers (11mm spanner I think) mine were blocked solid with some crud, I had to use a very small screwdriver to clear the blockages, since then everything has been 100% fine

I love it Nobby. Reminds me so much of my old Troy Corser rep Mille. Had three brand new nakeds this year now (Speed Triple 1050 and CB1000R) and both were awful in comparison to my T. All ive done all year is run engines in and wait for it to stop raining!

I have to stay away from the faired bikes as im erm . . . easily excitable. Basically i end up going a bit "radio rental." The nakeds' wind blast keeps me sensible (some of the time) and the T is just the right balance. Its a do everything bike thats like to misbehave! Ill definately be keeping it. Ive done another 600 miles on it this last week thanks to our Indian summer and a bit of time off at last.

Heres my old Troy Corser Mille. Sorry for crap quality.

P.S. Nobby, I dig your high level zorst. The welds on the link pipes look sweet and the carbon cans go with the Black Dream nicely.

mi trevallion you had a bit of a nightmare with that tank mate :crazy but when you said you had to walk around the garden 3 times that made me laugh :yes as i would have done just the same ! i got my T this year as i to am easily excitable on my old gsxr 1000 it was getting out of hand yet on the T ive had some great rides out and really enjoyed it yet when checkin my top speed been surprised to find ive not been much over 100 mph i love mine and will also be keeping it :cheers

Mine was like that also

Right from the factory, my tank was not breathing. My first few hundred miles, I would watch and hear the tank expand and Whhooossh every time I opened it for fuel.
I took it into the dealer and they fixed it quick. Mechanic told me that my hoses were pinched at the factory and charged it to warranty.
