Heya guys,

Went out for a blast today, all was fine until my fuel light came on. It was only coming on intermittantly so I figured next fuel station i'll fill up. Now normally I don't have any strange effects happen when the fuel light first pops on and off, however this time I noticed the bike was not happy and every now and again would 'stutter' as if was on the last dregs of fuel. Sometimes the power would be there other times seemingly non existant. It didn't just happen whilst I was cranked over either, running through traffic, on long straights. I was starting to get worried but as soon as i filled her up the problems disappeared entirely. Do aprilia have a system in place where it restricts the flow of fuel in order to conserve it for longer or is it just a case that my fuel light should be staying on instead of messing me about by popping off and on as it pleases?

Sounds like an airlock but i'd wait for others with more bike techno ability to help you here :dunno

Yeah new boots has the same problem !! a over sensive fuel light maybe yours is under sensive to low !!

somethings blocked or summit, reserve is 4 litres so good for about 30-40 miles, it does comem onand off a couple of times before it stays on, if you crank it over or wheelie it will go off too(fer a bit). it should fuel perfectly well its not a sepertate reserve tank or anything.
cheers cK

Alright GasGarcon, fuel lights are a bit 'vague' either way.....But a mate had a similar problem with his RSV...light was intermitently on, but died on him...tried to start, it would start but as soon as he put in gear and released the clutch it died...Oh bugger we all thought. Wheeled it to Sharky's house & put a bit of fuel in...hey presto it started and was fine. My advice is to fill up pretty soon after light starts blinking...or at a about 90 miles from fill up.

You shouldn't have to do that tho', Ive gone 20 miles with the light on and it never stuttered once. Need to get to the root cause, If I were you I'd get it booked in for a check-up just to be on the safe side :dunno

Think you're right Sprocker, its got its 6000mile service next tuesday, so i'll ask if he can check the fuel issue at the same time. And you're right, have ridden in the past with fuel light on with no issues.

I agree, shudnt have probs whilst on red light. prolly need yer TB's balancing agin at the service.
Ck

how much fuel did you put in to fill it up. the tank holds 18 lts, from this you can work out how accurrate your light is should only get 14 lts in from when light first comes on. i always check to see our much fuel i put in to keep tabs on the light.
