fuel leak 2000rsv

Hi all, well, my 1st proper post is for a problem, ho, hum:roll
I have had this bike for nearly a week now & discovered a problem. I have just filled the tank & it lis leaking fuel down the left rear part of the frame as it sits on the side stand. Is there a know problem for this? Is there an easy, dare I say cheap fix for this? :dunno
Any pointers would be gratefully recieved.

Jon

Hi Jon, have you removed the seat, side panel and lifted the tank to take a look to see where the leak might be coming from? There is a fuel line quick disconnect on the left side, which may be worth checking, or alternatively where this joins the rear of the tank. Perhaps the seal is perishing?

I am working on the left hand side being as you sit on the bike...... :dowhat

Not a known problem from what I know :dunno

Check the fuel pump gasket, common fault which causes fuel to leak. Also check the fuel hoses inside the tank as they can often perish, but if you replace them you must use the correct hose, not normal fuel pipe but submersible fuel pipe. Do not overtighten the fuel pump bolts when reasembling as they can distort the tank. You should also use loctite 518 on the fuel pump flange

Rsvmille, exactly the same happened to my 02 mille. it must be a common problem as Legs say. I took it to a garage to get it repaired and I was told they changed some sealant/s underneath the tank. Sorry not to give more details but I don't know exactly what it was changed.

yeah legs is right, check the seals back there. My carbon tank leakied cos its hard to torque up the bolts had to use washers and sealant etc. Not nice having a fuel leak, get it sorted soon matey
cheers

Thanks for the advise people, I will have a look tonight hopefully. I asked he guy I bought it from about it & it seems he might not have been as up front as he could have been at the time when I bought it:jack. It turns out that he has bought another tank for it & he seems to think it is a seam that is leaking. Any way, I am picking that up tonight but I believe it needs painting (tho not a prob as that is my trade, just a pain)

hopefully there is a pic below showing where the petrol runs down the frame (on the left side tho as you sit) when on the side stand.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Ok, back on topic, i found the leak:doug. the fuel is leaking from the front mounting bracket:eek:. I have just lashed in up with araldite (bodger!!), it does say it is oil resistant so i'm just hoping it will last long enough to get the other tank resparyed, for now i am just going to get one of the painters to colour it with the first black car he does next. then i will have time to get decals etc sorted.
