Front sprocket bolt 50Nm ???? that suprised me.

Was shocked when i took off the front sprocket nut yesterday for new chain and sprockets. It came off far easier than i expected..

Checked the manual, 50Nm... Jesus that's a bit low isn't it....

checked on Af1 forum and still the same, 50Nm...

quite suprised at that to be honest.

There have been cases of people shearing the head off the bolt by overtightening. And of course the bolt is being kept tight by the ant-clockwise action of the sprocket upon it (or at least it should be)

Dont forget the Loctite though! (as per the Aprilia workshop manual)

Don't worry chaps - finger tight would even do it for a sprocket as the shaft driving direction is against the thread. This means that if anything the centrifugal forces caused by accelerating will essentially tighten the nut.

Also the output shaft has a fine thread relative to shaft diameter, so therefore easlity damaged.

Second edit is coz Falco got in ahead of me while I was typing - damn there goes my chance to be clever!!!!!

I did mine upto 50nm 6months ago and its still on :thumbup so no probs, agreed it does seem low.

Ah well, it's all back on. Shiny new gold rear, nice front and a DiD chain

now running 16/44 combo on mine, should go like stink
