Front Forks 2003 RSVR Ohlins

Hi all need some info please , I'm having the forks serviced this week and have taken then off the bike today , can someone tell me what the standard number of rings showing should be at the top yoke , i;ve found all the other info but can't seem to find this . I'm fairly sure they have been lowered at some stage ( gaz had a look and he's of the same opinion ) :thumbup.

Not sure what standard is but for road use 2 rings showing makes for a nice...not loopy....turn in..
 
Standard for ohlins is 4 rings showing not including the the fork cap

Roger, 2 rings showing would surely raise the front end??

Well it would do if your original setting was 4...mine was 2 when I got it and it seems to be Ok for the road...might need to check Haynes manual or my pet Ohlins man..

Mine was five but that was with five just showing , Roger i had a quick check in Haynes and didn't see anything , will ask Colin at 100% on Wednesday.
Manual does give rear spec before the raising the rear .

Cheers Rawly...would be interested in knowing the 'correct'...factory setting ...mine is a 2001 R
 
Just checked through the Aprilia Use and Maintenance manual that came with my 2000 RSVR and the standard set up is described as 12mm/3 notches. Standard on the RSV is 8mm/2 notches.

Confirm Badger's info. According to User Manual that came with my 2005 RSVR 4 notches for road and 5 for track use. However mine came set with 3 notches showing and I think it must need lowering as I feel it needs more weight on the front.

Either that or i have a tyre problem. Anyone else running Conti Sport Attacks?? came with the bike and without pushing hard the front can let go - it catches again but i'm close to filling my Calvin Kleins by then anyway.
 
But not 4 as standard for the, ahem, classic shape gents according to the manual, and I notice Badger and Beechy are running new shape post 2003.5 RSVR's :thumbup

Mines not going to be a much of a shape at the front (classic or otherwise) if the b**tard front end lets go this easily

I realise that the phrase "crap workman blaming tools" comes to mind....
 
Friend of mine runs Benelli Tornado and TNT.....used to race and in his time done Bol d'Or so knows his bikes...says Conti attack is one of the better tyres he has used on the road...and believe me he is bloody quick....just my 2p worth

Thats good to hear, I was looking for feedback, i'm new to the bike and never run before on Conti Sport Attacks (they came on it) and dont know anyone else who runs them - something aint right as its stepped out at the front a few times and as i said its not even that i'm pushing hard
 
If it's not that you are pushing hard then i'd check the tyre pressure and the rebound and compression settings on the forks. Also would be worth the time checking on the rear shock settings. Does it let go when you bring the power on, constant throttle or throttle off?

There is a thread on here with a full write up on the various tyres from one of the magazines. As they say, all modern tyres are good, but some tyres suit some people, and some don't. It all depends on what "feel" you feel comfortable with and your riding style. Good luck with getting it set up to your liking and putting a stop to the front end letting go :thumbup

No, i am talking about my older 2001 R which runs 4 as standard and dropped to 5 for track use, my 04 runs 4 segments as standard and my 06 runs 3 as standard................confusing eh!!
 
Thanks for clearing that up Badger :thumbup I'm guessing in which case that there must have been a change between 2000 and 2000.5 when they released the revised frame geometry, engine position, fuel tank/bodywork etc which would explain the difference.

Ive had problems with super racer type tyres in the past and when i took a long hard look at my riding i decided i wasnt riding hard enough to warm them up and thats why they were letting go
