I got back home yesterday after a short visit to northern France having covered nearly 600 miles in three days. The bike didn't miss a beat :thumbup I stopped off at Brands Hatch for the BSB meeting and parked my bike using an Abus disc lock for security. When I got back to my bike it was apparent that it had been moved a couple of feet but there was no obvious damage to the bike. However on riding home I found that whilst the bike is in motion (at any speed from a crawl to motorway speeds) the front brake lever has excessive movement before the brakes come on. If you pump the lever normal play in the lever can be obtained. Whilst the bike is stationary then there is only the normal play in the lever. I have done a visual check on the brake disc and caliper and there is no obvious damage or warping. The bike rides normally with no vibration and the brakes work normally however it's rather disconcerting to find the lever moving so far before the brakes bite. Any ideas anyone?? :dunno

someone been fiddling with the adjustment i would say, check that first mate, it has nothing to do with the disc or caliper, as i said if someone has moved it they may have been playing with the adjuster for a laugh:dunno

Badger... not sure what you mean about the adjuster? I've got ASV levers fitted that allow adjustment of the lever span but the lever acts normally with the bike stationary. As soon as the bike moves the lever comes at least half way back towards the bar before the brakes start to act. I really can't work out why the difference.

it might also be air getting into the hydraulics somehow, damaged seals perhaps? if it needs bleeding you would experience what you have described when the lever moves further before the brakes bite, air bubbles can move around aswell so when stationary it could be the bubbles move 'out of the way' and the lever feels better

worth checking if the adjusters are ok :thumbup
