Found a bike but

Having spent a fair part of this year flogging bikes to the rest of the EU,I can assure you it would still be insane to buy in France (or pretty much anywhere else in the EU) even if you live there. Thats why all the French Germans etc were coming over here by the truckload and filling up with used UK stock. I'd do what Ian suggests until the point comes when you have to register it over there and get the paper work done, because its an EU free trade zone there's no import tax on used bikes. I know loads of French ZRX owners (French plates) who all seem untoubled by restriction ;) Like I said loads of French bikers have just bought over here, I'd ask them, check the French RSV board, odds on some of em have been over. Bon Chance!

Hi ian

Yeah thought of that aswell but i would need to be living here for less than 90 days i order for it to work but i live here permantly

Here you go Tim,this is the reply I got from my mate in France

Hi Ian,
As you guessed My bikes are registered in the UK and insured with Ebike that allows me to be abroad 365 days . I heard that they had stopped doing this kind of policy but mine clearly states 365 days I am supposed to inform them when traveling abroad though, so they get an email every now and then. The system works because there were no hassles with my accident last year, but their service is crap and I would not use them in the uk.
I fully understand your mates problem of the cost of bikes here that is why I bought another in the UK.it costs about 1200 euros to get a bike restricted and passed here and once passed you de-restrict again but in most cases this is the difference in price from a uk bike to a french one. There is a proper european insurance company that a client of ours uses, they have a dirty great 1200lt beemer registered in aussie and they are taking 5 years touring europe looking for where they want to buy a house, if memory serves me that was quite sensibly priced, i will try t get details for you.

I'll pass on any further details if you are interested

Tim, my mate runs around Brittany on Belgian export plates, German plates and all sorts of old **** on his vehicles.
Seems to depend on whether the local plod a. know who you are and b. don't hate you for any reason enough to be bothered.
Better still, why not make up a set of diplomatic plates - then you'll be fireproof!
