right then...

who has dropped their forks? by how much? whats the consensus?

currently on the 5 ring trying to compensate for shagged rear shock, now have shiny refurbed ohlins in the back so figure this may be a little too much of a drop...

any thoughts?

cheers

tom

my gen 2 is now set as per the manual .
when i first got my tuono it was set with 5 rings showing , it,d turn in a bit too quick and was very twitchy at high speed with the bars starting to flap like a mild tank slapper.
not good , so it was back to standard 2 rings !! (non ohlins forks )

According to the handbook, the std setting for 'R' Showa forks is one ring showing. For Ohlins forks, its three rings.Aprilia reckon on four rings showing on the 'racing' setting.I have heard of wheels hitting radiators at four ring setting.
My 'R' Showa's are set at two and a half rings.(Rear Ohlins is set 2mm. longer than std.)Also using a 190/55 rear tyre,.......turn in is fine and dandy.:thumbup

BTW,we are talking about the fork rings showing above the yolks,....not the preload setting,........are'nt we?

yep we are indeed . and have just re checked mine and they are 1 ring showing as per the book , not 2 Doh !
i regularly meddle with the pre load as i,ve fitted some pre load adjuster collars and am trying to find the ideal for norfolk,s rough arsed roads .l

KB, my wee rad spoiler has been buffed down a few times and I've only got 2 rings showing + the ohlins are set at factory standard (a bit to firm for this lightweight fud).

dunno about hitting the rad... think i may try lifting them by a ring and see what happens, i have a feeling it may be a little flightly as is.

@grin - tbh i think if i put a brick in the back i would notice a positive difference. :D the old showa was utterly knackered. i have a feeling someone, at some time, put an old mille shock in there as the spring wasnt strong enough to extend the shock once you had the settings dialed in. set to allow a bit of movement in the piston it tank slapped like a bad thing, hence why i had the forks dropped... which didnt work :D ohlins it is!

3 rings on my showa's
the front tyre 'just about' touches the lower trim on the rad (now & again)

thanks guys, think i may go back to standard, 1 ring, and see how i go.

MOT tomorrow, fettling with forks on sunday

wish me luck it hasnt moved for about a year! :(

I ve got 3 rings showing on my showa clamp sitt on the 4 ring, since i dont know better, is this where thy should sit????

It's down to personal preference.
As long as your front wheel doesn't catch anything (the rad for example) under full compression, you're good to go.
Also keep an eye on ground clearance.
Make sure your steering damper is up to the task, as you steepen the head angle, stability falls away.
