Rode to work thismorning like I normally do and noticed I needed Petrol.

Pulled into the petrol station and filled up. got kitted back up and hit the Starter button and it turned over slow then stopped like a flat battery on a car, hit the button again and the same.
5 times in total. the clocked didnt reset so Im almost sure its not the battery. I have a 14 fitted and it sits on a optimate everyday.

Just about to park up and call the AA and thought I will try it one more time and it fired up strong as an ox. Arrived at work and switched it off then back on again it she fired up no worries.

Its like its got a sticky starter motor or something. its happend before but only once then fires up.

Any ideas? what do I need to spend my money on now :devious:biggrin

Long shot but maybe the earth connection is not too good. either clean it - or, as it's tricky to get to, do as I did and run an extra earth from the battery to the frame. Cost nowt and may cure it.

Mine always does this, To be honest I think sometimes the bike isn't fully in neutral- I just play with the gear lever then it starts fine. could this be your problem?

Well thismorning I would say it was more of an issue of the starter motor not having enough power to turn.

Think I will give BoB's idea a bash, worth a punt :)

Have you got the uprated Yamaha starter solenoid fitted? My guess is the starter solenoid is on it's way out

Not as far as I know. how would I check? and whats the Yammy one I would need?

Yamaha part number 4KD81940-00, £28.00 from any Yamaha dealer and a straight swap with the lower rated Aprilia one. I'm not saying it is this but if all other things check out ok as per BoBs suggestion and you're 100% sure your battery's ok then it may be worth replacing if the problem persists

cheers buddy, think its worth a change anyways. piece of mind and all.

Just done a search on here and managed to find the part no, thanks dude, also, what machine is this from then?

Yamaha starter is now GBP 37.00.

Ordered one 2 weeks ago...... still waiting....apparently you're having a postal strike :angry:angry

Not 2 weeks long strike mate! bloody long time. who did you order from?

Wigan Yamaha..... got one from them for my last RSV, all was okay...
Have to wait a few more days and see if it turns up.
