Factory order for spares/warranty - Lead times?

So my brand new 2014 Tuono needs a replacement front fairing as the plastics have separated and come apart half way down the air-duct at the join just above the indicator. No best pleased since the bike is less than 8 weeks old.

My dealer took a look and confirmed that there was a pin missing from underneath, replaced that but it doesn't hold the plastics together. It is pretty clear that its a bad panel as the edges are poorly finished and dont sit right. Its gone for a warranty claim. Naturally there are no replacement fairings in the UK dealer network or stock so has to be a factory order.

And that last bit really pisses me off. Anyone had a factory order for spares? How long did you have to wait for them to send the parts?
 
Some Aprilia spares come from a warehouse in Geneva,(dont know if thats still the case),...others direct from Italy.Depending where the part is,it can take 2-4 weeks.
N.B Those times are extended in august when the whole of Italy goes on holiday.

7 weeks for a wheel!!!!.....that's bonkers!

I could walk to Italy and fetch it and walk back with it in that time!
 
Cheers guys - yeah I fear that I'm going to be in for a wait.

Here's some quick and dirty shots of the gap in the air duct. These look a lot better than it does usually as I was trying to hold them in position to see if I could come up with a bodge to tide me over until Aprilia sort out their **** and send me the replacements.

I know its not the end of the world but I expect a brand new bike to have all parts fitting correctly, especially within the first 8 weeks of ownership!
 
Your right mate, it doesn't look horrendous but it is brand new and should bloody well fit perfectly!

why they can't airfreight the stuff over and it's here in 2 days is beyond me....that's poor customer service from Aprilia!
 
I use a 2 part glue for work called Mitre Mate , its good for plastic and should stick that back together for you as a quick fix until you get a new 1 in june 2015 !!!!!

My wheel was supposed to come in and get done the same time as the first service ...... i got to 1000 miles and did the service myself as i wasnt gonna waste my time and get it down to them twice ..... every time i rang them all i got was ' well it should be here by now , i will chase it up ' :banghead
 
There are also connectors on the air ducts you cannot see on the inside so make sure thats not broke either.
 
Personaly I would expect any part on a current machine to be available from stock and shipped within 48 hours, to have 12k's worth of bike and have to wait for parts is not acceptable to me and I would be telling the dealer to either remove the part from a new bike if they had one in stock or get the part within a week, if they expected me to wait weeks with a damaged bike I would be looking at returning it for a full refund.
 
my belly pan bracket snapped and parts of bellypan melted..1 week and parts sorted ...happy

Dead right!

Makes you want to go and unbolt the part of a display model in their shop yourself doesn't it!

Oh and Mitre mate will bond it no probs!......excellent stuff, just check with the dealer they don't mind it back bonded together lol
 
The problem has worsened and now looks like a full fairing replacement. Warranty claim accepted by Aprilia but again got to wait for factory order. The whole thing has been a bit of a ball ache really. I've had many Ducati's over the years and even they were able to ship within three days.

I did think about sticking it all together in the interim whilst I wait but I'm not sure if I can be arsed...
 
You do not have to wait for the factory, your contract under consumer rights is with the dealer, if they cant supply the parts that is not your problem it's there's, if it were me I would demand they take the parts from a new bike if they have one in stock or refund my purchase, if anyone wanted a new bike I bet your dealer could supply one quick enough.
 
That is poor service from the dealer....They should be bending over backwards to help you out.
 
Im bloody sourcing the parts myself now. I'll have my bloody dealer pay for them and fit them. I'll be naming and shaming the **** out of the dealer when this is buttoned up.
 
Keep us informed how it goes, sourcing bits yourself while under warranty stinks, name the dealer so we can avoid the ****, personaly I would have demanded a refund from them and gone elsewhere.

Yeah it does. Not that it means anything but I never had this problem with Ducati.

It was going to be tough to go elsewhere are there was no other dealer nearby. There was no way I was going to buy from someone miles away as that could be a real pain in the arse if it all went south (like this)!

Fortunately the parts I need are cheap, RH upper and lower air duct ca. £15 in total so its not a big hit to the pocket. I'll be making the dealer cover this anyway as my contract is with them directly and not Aprilia despite what they want me to believe.
 
So finally got the parts and fixed the cowl on my bike. It took an age and Aprilia initially sent out scratched and damaged parts then took an age to replace with decent parts. I had to call Piaggio customer services to get things moving and that seemed to do the trick.

The bike is now perfect again, just as it should be for a two month old machine.

I sincerely hope that nothing else goes wrong with the bike....
