I went out for blast last week, filled up bike about 1 mile from home on the way back, parked up until the next ride out and only got about 40 miles and the fuel light came on, it took another £14.00 to fill up.

There is no visible leak, bike still runs great and get the same miles per tank, about 90-100 when riding, it just seems to be when the bike is parked up.

A friend said the fuel could be leaking into the oil, but surely if thats the case the bike would run poor and you would see visible signs in the oil tube.

The oil has just been put in about 300 miles ago and the old oil never smelt of fuel.

Any ideas, has anyone had similar problems?, look forward to replies.

Thanks in advance. :thumbup

Sometimes think mines evaporating with how it uses the stuff, and I thought women were expensive to run..

Are you sure no ones syphoning it off when you're not around..There's been quite a lot of it happening around some parts.

If it happened while the bike was parked it has to be leaking out somewhere. Just can't see the fuel evaporating at that rate unless you left the filler cap open.

Got to be a leak....never enough time for that lot to evaporate. Suggest you fill it up to top, park it up with a sheet of cardboard underneath...leave overnight and check it in the morning....but not with a ciggy in your mouth....

............if it leaked the cardboard will be soaking...then it's investigation time....if not....some bugger's nicking it....Good luck

Thanks fellas, it cant be getting nicked as it is parked in garage behind car, :confused, shall fill up and check (good picture Rog) and hopefully find fault.
Cheers. :thumbup

£14.00 to fill.. thats about 2 1/2 gallons..4o miles about a gallon..so thats a loss of 1 1/2 gallons. If that was leaking while in the garage you would smell it every time you went in.

Are you sure your misses isn't taking it out for a spin while your at work :dunno

Good one sprocker, she cant ride, but she might have fancy fella that can :confused, shall have to check the mileage now as well then. :thumbup

If it was leaking in a garage you'd smell it, especially that much.

My old TL developed the all too common TL fuel pump gasket leak and it stunk out the garage even though it wasn't leaking fast enough to leave a puddle. I could smell it, and it wasn't leaking enough to notice the difference when filling it. Couldn't even pick the leak in my MPG (I used ot log every tank :coocoo)

you certainly would smell it, I lost a tank full from my kwacker and we had to leave the garage doors open for 24hrs to clear the smell

I have to agree with every one else if it was leaking you would certainly be able to smell fuel

Hi Mate,
I have a 02 mille and had the same problem. In my case the leaking came from a sealant at the bottom of the petrol tank at the side which is closer to the seat. I took it to the garage to get it fixed as I wasn't able to do it myself.
