Eprom chip or Power Commander?

V

V_senna

Its time to upgrade either my chip or go for a power commander, not sure which is the best?

I've got an Evo Airbox kit fitted, Ti evo can, down geared also,

Is it better to go for a Dr Rossi chip, or to get a power commander and dyno it to get it mapped?

There is a big price difference between the two.

From my limited knowledge, in grades of expense.

1) Power Commander with custom map with new chip that unlocks the ignition advance if no money the object.

2) Power commander with custom map to your bike by tuner (will only map the fuelling not ignition). Guaranteed (if good tuner) to be optimised for you bike.

3) Chip with ignition advanced, and a "generic" map to your bike combo may - be great and near optimised for your bike or may not.

Personally I'm a fan of good chip plus a good tuner and PC!

If you got money to spare, go the PC route.

In all other cases go for a decent chip as it will give you the same performance as the PC without the electronics that can go wrong for a fraction of the price.

Simple, just PM Dr Rossi, let him know what you have and get him to send you a chip. PCIII is great for "FINAL" fine tuning but you dont get the IGNITION benefits :devious

Ive just fitted a couple of Alain's / Dr Rossi chips to my Falco & my Mille R,the falco was standard & my Mille has a evo airbox full arrow system & it use to have a Gabro chip, yes it use to have good top end power with the race chip, but because of the ignition difference on that chip it was a bit of a sod to start when warm had to give it some throttle every time & we know this is not good for the sprag clutch,I also had a pc3 setup with a custom map with that chip ,but had problems below 3.5k,its now removed & just has the Dr Rossi chip & it runs lovely, smooth all the way throgh the rev range ,the Falco is the same with just less power, thoughrly recommend his chips & good service
just lift the fuel tank,2x 8mm bolts at the front & lift it up,there will be 3 options, evo standard bottom of the airbox with a rubber seal that seals around the bottom of the tank, renagade which is a flat carbon plate foam filter over the trumpets or youve got the standard plastic airbox
to check which chip you have ,remove front seat, towards the rear is a rubber lid for the ecu, remove rubber cover & remove both connector blocks, dont need to disconnect battery for this ,then remove ecu out from under the rear seat,4 screws hold on the lid & there is a large chip on the that can be unplugged, this is your chip, just check whats written on the top & ask on here

I decided to ditch the power commander idea... Cost on the investment and dyno runs required for mapping.

Instead i got a Dr. Rossi chip - good enough for me and make the bike feel much better. Dyno printout is on my garage.

Reading all this with interest, how do I tell which chip I have in my bike ? not up on this sort of thing, I also read about air boxes can I tell easily what box I might have,? if I could help and better my bike, I would like to understand what I might need to do ? if its to hard to explain easily on here just say and I will endeavour to find the info from a dealer. My bike has had lots spent on it and I may already have some of these mods I just need to identify which I have fitted. ?:dunno regards Ken
