Engine Vibration High Revs

Firstly thanks for all help with information on this forum awesome.

I have an 2001 RSVR that had 5000km on it and was still restricted. Iv done 5000kms two track sessions, bike is going wicked but now seems to be more vibration when higher in the revs to the point some teens where holding their breast as I went past, I wasnt perving honest (Im going with nipple stimulation from vibration.)
Back on topic does the 2001 RSVR get more vibration from engine loosning up
It seemed to happen once I was about 3/4 of an hour into hard road ride.

Iv checked TPS, Tyres Sweet, feels more Engine or maybe Engine mount bolts loose which have read can be an issue. (Will Check anyway)

Cant give Rev info as thats another thing I cant seem to fix even with reading info as it keeps just doing its own thing and cant set light to more than 4500 revs.

Any other ideas? as like I said bike hauls arse and this might be just normal.

Throttle bodies out of balance ?, tyre maybe sweet but are they balanced properly, head stock bearings , chain tension or wheel bearings.

All are easy to check.

Where in N.Z are you ?

Down in Nelson,
When you say throttle bodies is that the same as TPS as it sits on Diag 0 and when throttle is turned it goes to Diag 1. Hadnt thought of Bearings as so low Ks but I like wheelies so will check, chain tension regularly checked, Rear tyre just balanced but front (Power)has about 4000ks and while it looks OK Ill take your advice and get it balanced.

Thanks Kiwi RSVR do you get to come to Back to NZ to ride? Assuming you are a Kiwi

Me originally from Waiau (near Hamner Springs), but spent most of my life in Christchurch, get home ever 3/4 years for a few weeks at a time.

TPS is the Throttle Position Sensor mounted to the Throttle Bodies.
If you are getting Diag 0/1 then you need to reset the TPS sensor (there is a procedure for this), BUT this has nothing to do with balancing the Throttle bodies themselves.

Setting up the TPS is relatively easy and can be done with no special tools.

I have been away from N.Z for too long to know where the good bike mechanics are but you could contact Valendino (hes up in the North Island) (there are another couple of good Kiwi lads on here too, but their names escape me - do'h)

Chain free play should be between 22-25mm no more no less.

One other thing to check is that the front sprocket is on tight and that the rear sprocket nuts are tight.

Also its opossible that if theres been any engine work done recently that the flywheel was not put on properly - obviously no engine work no problems.

You could try this guy Bruce Telford , he worked on my 03 RSVR when it broke
its pressure plate in the clutch , he maybe able to shed some light on your problem. BRUCE 06 364 8784

Done some dirt riding in Waiau supporting school fundraiser.

I thought when you get Diag 0 with plug together all is good, no faults with wire open. I have just tightend sprocket bolts after finding two loose before this issue and chain is as you say it sould be.
Ill do a search for balancing the Throttle bodies, I work in Jap bike shop but am on ACC with TBI after crashing my Motard so will try some stuff myself while Im off (Im not a mechanic just into bikes and M/C gear) Iv had more help from this forum and enjoy having a crack myself if possible.

Thanks again

Cheers Sensei I have heard of Bruce Ill try to check some ideas Kiwi has given me but still think he worth a call for some performance advice to keep these inlines honest down here.

Thanks

Check the headset cluster frame also as they crack around the base a couple of my mates have had theirs break & have just found mine had done the same , have made my own base & side plates now out of thicker Ally & welded it onto the frame .

Have checked headset from outside and seems OK. Im dropping forks out to change fork seals(Yamaha 2006 sp seals?) should I take tripple clamp out and check inside as well?
Did you and your mates bike vibrate with this issue?
You have me worried now, had to check top of page to make sure I wasnt on a Kawasaki forum LOL

Found a little oil in airbox but have read this is common, and bike is due oil change so will check for metal particals, chain good, front sprocket tight engine mounts tight. Still to rebalance front wheel.

Thanks again Sensei

Not the headset it self the Ally speedo cluster frame which holds the front nose flairing etc onto the head tube . Haven't had any issues like yours or my mates . Did find that when you run these bike pretty rich they seem to shudder abit more than leaner

You mean the part where if you dont remove the gub screw from steering damper bolt it snaps off inside LOL How many people have done this I wonder almost worth a poll.

Yea thats the bit , was lucky enough to just to see the grub screw while try to get a spanner onto the bolt & thought hummmmm whats that for ?? then the penny dropped grub screw to hole the bolt from coming out !!! . Any whooo have you found ya vibration problem yet ?

Had a bad day with it easyout snaped so getting new lug welded on and previous owner should go for strongest man as caliper bolts real tight and need to replace one 10 weeks x Italy (You would think Triumph NZ is importing Aprilia Parts) will use high tensile for now til it comes. Front wheel in shop as my work only has static balancer. Once done Ill put wheel back in hang from roof as no steering head stand and check for steering head play (if thats how its checked?).

So no but slowly illiminating and doing oil changes and fork seals while in bits, I just want to get back on it and do some riding weathers starting to get better and Takaka Hill just been sweeped.

When you say running rich how do I change mixture? as Bike is pretty much stock have not long derestricted it, has Aprilia SP cans two stacked on top of each other and a DNA airfilter.

When you de-restricted it did you also cut the ecu wire to getting it running map 2?

I think if that wasn't done it might be running a bit out,but I stand to be corrected by the more knowledgable among us.

Yip I cut the blue wire green stripe on the bottom row of smaller of plugs on ECU as per pic on thread, bike has been great done a few ks since. I first noticed at track after two days of track time and wasnt till end of 2nd day when I was getting on the pace that I noticed it.

Maybe Im at the point where its been pushed hard and is normal to vibe more?

Any 8.8 grade spec Cap bolt well be the same as the standard bolt . I have a stand that goes throught the hole in the front frame that comes off the headset which lifts the whole front up so checking the fork play is very easy .

Cheers will get one, am going to order one as well interested how long it will take X Italy. Landlord now has two hooks in ceiling, light was better in kitchen but wife came home early.
I was cleaning the rear wheel and can feel disc side wheel bearing smooth then grinds as I turn wheel, so am going to replace both sides hope just off the shelf at local bearing shop.

Wheel was a little out of balance took off 10 grams. Thanks Kiwi

Fairing stay has new lug, Fork seals Monday then get the beast up and going again.

Sensei Your bike looks awesome no wonder you have nice stands its very worthy. Thanks again for your interest and help

Could check stuff like tank mount & sub frame bolts along with handle bar clamps for correct torque settings etc . I put 30grm bar weights into my handle bars which helped take alot of vibes away at high rev's / speeds

Checked most bolts already with bike being 2nd hand, I dont mind the v-twin vibe just not excessive vibration, Im going to have the throttle bodies balanced after I get it back together and if that dosnt fix it Im going to just stop worrying about it and ride it, muck around after summer. Cheers for your help
