Thanks I`ll get the welder out tonight and have a go.

Just trying to wiggle the engine out and i`ve given up to think about it (i got a bit mad last night)
 
from memory you need to drop the left hand side of the motor first and it should then drop out quite easily (it gets hung up on the frame mount)
 
I find it easier to take the frame off the engine than to drop the motor - but it means stripping the bike down completely
