Engine Knocking Noise

Hello
Help please!

I have a knocking noise which is moor prominent when the engine is cold.
Symptons are:
knocking noise appears to be coming rear cylinder and is nor present throught the rev range.
If you rev the engine to 4K and shut the throttle the noise is nore obviuos between 3K to 2K as the revs drop.
I have removed the rear cylinder cam cover all looks ok apart from there is what I believe to considerable (0.5mm) end flot on the balanceshaft.

have phoned several dealers but no one has had a problem with the balancer shaft.

Any one out the who can throw any light on the subject please

There is a rare problem with end float on the balance shaft causing an increasingly noisy knock. I had an 02 Mille R engine in a Tuono 5 years back that did it. It used to annoy me loads. Replacing cam chain tensioners made no difference whatsoever. I have only encoutered 2 other people on the internet that have had this problem.

Ive got a couple of spare balance shafts. I will sell one for Â£15 posted if this is any help?

Hi

Does anyone know the correct end float measurements for the rear head balance shaft? I cant figure out if the manual is referring to the wear limits or the actual operating clearance.
