Engine cutting out during shifting - ideas?

I have a few hundred miles on my new 2007.5 Tuono (first service not yet done) and have encountered a problem I was hoping someone out there could help me with.

During shifting the engine sometimes dies. This has happened when the engine is running warm and dry. The problem crops up when I am off of the throttle and have the clutch engaged.

Normally this occurs when I was going slow on the street but yesterday it cut out when I was downshifting from 5th to 4th on the freeway. Not too safe!

Luckily the engine has fired right back up while I was coasting.

Any ideas?

Idle too low?

Scary as all hell that - hope you find the prob. :crazy Engine dying on the freeway not my cup of tea.

Mine finds that nice false neutral between 5 and 6 quite often unless I am wearing my big boots and stomp the shifter, but that is more of an engine whizz than a stop.

Good luck eh.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be a hose that goes from the throttle body to a switch on the airbox had split. I replaced the hose and it cured the issue. If you raise the tank, the offending hose is on the left side of the bike facing the front wheel. You problem sure sounds like mine. Good luck.

Thanks. Is it easy to lift the tank? Was it just a matter of removing a few screws or bolts?

Just remove the seat, loosen the bolt in the back and remove the 2 bolts in the front. The tank will tilt back on the rear bolt.

Fixed Problem

Thanks for the great advice. Sure enough - it was a small vacuum hose that had split. Made a temporary repair to the hose and will replace it later this week.

Owe you one! I don't think I would have noticed the little guy had you not pointed me in the right direction.
