Just for your info Jon.
I have a performance air filter kit (no airbox), MiVV endcan, PCIII, standard chip and on a dyno that is known to be somewhat pessimistic I had 120BHP and 81LFtlbs of torque.

2002 RSV. K&N filter. no duct tube gubbins. clipped blue wire. MIVV Ti single can. downgeared on Renthals. 122bhp. feels a bit slow in 1st/2nd due to short gearing. feckin motors from 3rd upwards!

Cheers guys, good to know that 120bhp is attainable.
I'm going to Dynospeed in Chigwell tomorrow morning for a straight forward full power run. My gut instinct tells me 102-105bhp at present.

Interesting note about the air ducts. Dr Rossi also recommended getting rid of the air ducts either side of the headlight. What is the benefit of that?

I've seen the 'Edwards Air Tubes' available as an upgrade- aren't these the same but 'smoother' inside?

just a thought but dont the air ducts direct and ram the air into the filter without the ill effect of turbulance? I suppose they're not required on an open airbox but make sense with the standard item?

Another thing.....how do they simulate the ram air effuct on a dyno without an air box?

Hmm... I now think the optimistic dyno is full of crap!

I took the RSV down on Saturday (completely standard) and it was measured at 120.4bhp- and running slightly rich all the way through.

120.4 on a standard bike running rich?

I don't think so!

Jon,

That figure could be quite realistic, these aint no Firestorms !!.

Spoonz from this ere site posted a while a go about his "standard" making around 118-11.

If that worried book a session down at Robin Hooker Racing, a power run will cost you about 40 quid in cash.

jon, wait until you've put on your Fuel can, changed your gearing ( 16/43) and added the airbox. You find the bike's a different animal. The gearing will make the biggest change, 16/44 being the optimal set up for the road

I'd not heard of Robin Hooker, but just had a quick Google.
Think I'll take it down there, perhaps even next Saturday.

Only snag is that I've just fitted my 'performance' parts and really should go back to the original dyno for a true comparison. Suppose in practice I need to do both, which will be £80....

I've fitted a Fuel end can, early model collector box and Evoluzione(?) air box mod/replacement.

Dr Rossi chip is on its way. If it REALLY is making 120bhp then I would hope after spending near £50 on parts it would now be more like 125bhp...

A 5bhp gain should be realistic, shouldn't it? (irrespective of whether it's really @ 120bhp or not)?

A standard 02/03 RSV Mille should make around 115 rwhp in derestricted form, i.e with ECU wire snip. A true 120 hp should be within reach with the mods you are doing, but most gains will be to the midrange where it matters most

I have changed the gearing- 16/43 with 525 Renthals. I did that on Saturday morning too. I had a little wobble out on Sunday and it does feel a lot fitter, but would like to see cold, hard numbers. I'm at Mallory on Friday so will have to see how it goes then. I find you have to lean it over an awful lot to get your knee down....

I was messing about on a local roundabout and looked at my back tyre after- it was going right on to the edge which is a little worrying... Hope she does better around Gerrards!

DSD dyno qouted same as Gibsons & Big CC's along with a few more for my 7/12... 121bhp... so id say the numbers are correct... but Fuchs do read differently to Dyno 250's... did Grumpy do the run !? :)

* just let me know if i should delete non Aprilia bike !! :-/

That'll be the fella! When I took the R6 he was a lot more talkative and even warmed a little when he saw my mates mint 2000 Fireblade (it really is like new).
115.4bhp for the R6 I would've believed, but he told me that just the week before he ran up a 2008 R6 with nothing but a PC111 and full akro and it made 124bhp!

That's what cast a little doubt initially, and this current RSV 'making' 120.4bhp whilst running rich just seemed a little too generous.

If it is accurate though, that'll be great.

im following your thread with anticipation... iv 'just' got a RSV 2002... & will be doing the same as yourself tuning wise !! :biggrin

whats this about the earlier collector box !? :confused

ps Grumpy is his nick name... i aint calling him Grumpy !! :biggrin

Well the way I understand it, the earlier RSV had much larger, less restrictive collector boxes- this is the part that takes the air from the 2 'ram air' scoops and funnels it upwards into the air box.

My aim was to make the breathing as easy as possible so fitted the early shape box to the 2003 bike and coupled this with the 'racing' airbox mod and high performance filter.

How effective this is I don't know, but the induction raw on full throttle is now noticable which would make me think it's sucking more air in? (and hopefull leaning the mixture out).

I'd like to run it on the dyno again this weekend for comparisons sake.

ahhh... ok... not the actual exhaust system collector !! :colgate

id definately use the same dyno for comparision for the mods... end of the day... bhp is one thing... but correct fueling is the most important factor !! :doug

im off to BMF this weekend... to see what treasures i can get for me Mille !! :pirate
