Hello! Glad to own an 04 RSVR factory. A change from VFR's and RD 250 Yamahas. Now Italian electrics (much the same reliability as on the classic cars!) I have changed the rectifier, battery, solenoid and upgraded the cables and all was great. The owner before me was in the habit of taking out the fuses so I changed the holders. My problem is intermittent, the bike runs well, ticks over and charges well, starts easily BUT when I stop sometimes it cuts out and will not turn over. After a 20 mile drive it cut out, I tried the usual turn the key off/on watch the cycle and press the starter button-nothing. Pulled the 30 amp fuses and replaced, still nothing apart from the usual fuel pump noise. Sat on the side of the road waiting for the RAC for 30 minutes and heard a single click noise from the front of the bike like a relay. It started up straight away and rode normally for 20 miles. Any help would be appreciated thankyou. The dash lights and cycle are all normal, everything works electrically. There are no clicking noises when trying the start button. Is there a tilt switch relay on these? cheers, Don.

If I'm reading this right.

So it is when it is hot?

It's been turned off and at key on you press the starter and nothing. No click or anything. Other times it is fine?

I've this problem. I replaced the solenoid as it was a couple of years old and symptom still occurs though less so. Unplug the fuel pump and press the starter measuring if there is a drop at the battery. A drop will show if the switch is working properly. You may need to do it until it has the symptoms you describe.
I brought two switches and now have two spares but haven't eradicated this issue. I'm beginning to think it's the starter itself or possibly iffy wiring off the ignition switch. A few are starting to fail there of late

It has a new solenoid, upgraded wiring, a new battery, a new rectifier, it is charging as it should, the fuel pump makes the right noises and no problems. When the bike cuts out there is nothing happening on the starter button. I turn the ignition off and on-let the clocks do their checks and press the starter button...nothing. After 30 minutes I heard a click - I turned the ignition on -let the clocks cycle and it fired up straight away.

Test the starter switch.
If you need one I've a couple of spares for when mine does it next. I replaced stator and rectifier, solenoid and battery. Not done cable upgrade but I don't think that's the problem. I cleaned starting button out and so far it's only done it once since

Have a look at the bottom of the ignition switch. The wires there are fragile and get pulled as the steering turns. Fatigue could cause breakages or intermittent faults.
Normally shows Ecu fault on the dash. You tired to get a fault code on dash?

Oh and there is a tilt switch. It's just above the battery
I'd consider checking the immobiliser wiring too. Make sure that's ok but whilst there. Under the left carbon cover by the left clip on all the wiring passes through. There is a white plastic connector that is part of the fuel system and they can get water and corrioson in too causing issue
