Gentlemen, I just bought an early 04 rsvr factory (in love)! but one day, as I was leaving a stop light, the bike died. I pulled over and just barely had power to the gauges. when I hit the starter, nothing. No power anywhere. As I was going over the fuses and such, I heard a click by the battery, and she fired right up. Then the other day I went out and warmed her up, shut off the ignition for a sec, went to start it and the same thing happened. Got home a couple hours later and she fired up again. When it did it the second time I plugged it into the battery tender and she had a full charge, but it literally was like there was no battery in the bike. I still have the junk *** inst. cluster in it, so it resets everything when it dies. Beyond that, sometimes when I start it the check engine exclamation point lights up, and the bike cuts out just above idle. I shut it off, start it again and its off. Anyone heard of these things before? The first time the electrical did that, I thought I heard the "click" come from the little box thats rubber mounted right behind the battery. anyone know what that box is? Its already had a new stator from ricks installed, but Im not sure about the rectifier.

that is the starter solenoid which tends to stick if you have a weak battery but what it does is that it keeps your starter on even if you ride so it can not make your engine die. if it died, you had no power so i would look for a short circuit somewhere around the battery. if you heard click around that it might be a spark coming from the short circuit. there is also the crash kill switch around the battery but i think that does not shut off the whole electricity of the bike, it should only turn of your engine.

Thanks Theruck. I got into the bin of goodies that came with the bike and looked at what I thought was the old stator that was replaced by a new ricks, but it turns out the stator in the box is brand new! The orig owner never installed the new one! So between that, and having one of those soupys(?) rear lowering links that break, its time to pull the bike apart and start from step one, going through the wiring, stator, suspension, rear brakes, etc. She came with grips of spare and replaced parts. It already has a clutch slave, upright bar conversion, trick adjustable shorty levers, stainless brake lines, front gear, double bubble windscreen, and a mivv exhaust installed, plus a set of full length adjustable levers, aftermarket clutch master, two sets of clip on bars, stock exhaust still in plastic, factory titanium exhaust, spare mirrors, two extra pillion covers, and a bunch more little stuff, plus all the stock parts that were replaced. All Im missing is a replacement instrument cluster, and possible an aftermarket rectifier. Not bad I think for $5200.00
