Hi tech gurus, is there any difference between a 2003 APRILIA TUONO 1000 CDI Unit and my 2004 tuono fighter unit. Are they interchangeable?
Regards,
Rob

Ok,its not a CDI unit. They are completely different animal, usually found on two strokes. You must mean the ECU? AFAIK,they are all the same from 2003-2005.Some of the USA versions are different, but not sure how.

Keith, many thanks for the reply.
Pardon my ignorance I'm still learning!!
I need a replacement ECU for my bike, I've seen a couple of second hand ones on eBay in the UK and I'm worried I might buy the wrong one.
Thanks
Rob

I have a spare ecu from an ,07 gen 2 tuono . if interested pm me . not sure what year you need tho .

I have got a gen1 ecu if you still need one, open to sensible offers.

Hi Mark, just ordered one of ebay this morning but thank you all the same.
I just have to hope when it arrives its not duff!
Should there be a problem I'll be in touch with you - as a matter of interest what is your asking price?
Cheers,
Rob

Keith, before i received your message I contacted an eBay seller asking if the 2003 ECU would be compatible with my 2004 tuono and received this reply a moment ago.

"New message from: hillsmotorbikes
Hi, we are unsure , in 04 Aprilia revised its RSV models , click on bigger pics and check part number ? this one is for standard key type , not later 04 coded key version"

If this is true I'm hoping the one I've just purchased works on my bike.
Cheers,
Rob

No problem Rob, would be looking for £60 delivered. The easiest way to tell the gen1/gen2 ecu's are, gen1 is a silver metal box with 2 plugs on the side and gen2 are black plastic box with the plugs on the top. All gen1 ecu's are interchangeable just change the chip, gen2 ecu's are different between Tuono and RSVR.

Hope that helps.

Mark

Hi all, put a used ECU bought on ebay on my Tuono today and guess what,it fired right up – unlike the one I removed.
Tried a number of times and it fires up cleanly every time, so i'm well pleased
I now wonder if the ECU\ trim pot settings which came with the bike had something to do with the bike refusing to fire up.

Anyway, I removed the cover from my new box to swap over the chip which was originally fitted to the bike ( RSV MY 01/02/03) only to find there is no daughter board inside, only a 549c eurokat chip– is it the case that the daughterboard is sold together with the RSV MY 01/02/03 chip?

As a matter of interest my bike is fitted with a power commander iii, k&n air filter, SP engineering end can with db killer, and grn/blue wire to ecu cut.

The first picture shows the trim pot settings as they were when I bought the bike.
The second is the dyno chart.
I've got the feeling my only other option is to install a gabro chip and then have the power commander set up all over again on a dyno.
Any suggestions are most welcome.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob,
If it starts and runs with the ebay ecu then why go to all the bother? Or am i missing something :confused
By all means stick it on a rolling road to ensure it's fuelling correctly and making the right sort of power but other than that I would just enjoy it.

Hi fugly, my bike has an open exhaust can and K&N air filter so need an advanced chip otherwise the engine will run too lean.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob,
That would explain!
Might still be worth talking to a dyno operator to see if they can set the power commander up to cover it as it's only fuelling. Just my two penneths worth but feel free to tell me to bog off and mind my own business :dunno

isn't that what a PC III is for :dunno surely if you fit a chip as well 1 of the mods must be redundant :dunno

Hi brooksy, after searching other posts, i believe the RSV MY 01/02/03 chip is better than the one i have installed at the moment.
So even if the power commander was tuned to my existing chip the bike would never pull as smoothly throughout the rev range, as it would with the before mentioned chip.
I could be wrong, its what I believe to be correct.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi fugly, your input is welcome so no, I won't tell you to bog off.

Cheers Rob,
Well whatever course of action you take I hope you get it back to how you wanted it. Good luck buddy
