Apparently, Ducati briefly toyed with the idea of making a naked Desmosedici RR in an attempt to recoup some of the costs associated with developing the 200bhp MotoGP replica. The 1,500 $76,500 bikes were all sold at a loss, which was written off by the publicity they garnered. Ducati apparently felt a naked version would dilute the Desmosedici brand to too great a degree, killing the project before development began. A Monstersedici RR sure would have given the 197bhp 2009 Yamaha VMAX pause for thought, wouldn’t it have? Another image follows the jump.

Hey, if I had the cash...i'd get both of them. Probably the only Ducati I'd ever own after seeing the production facility. :scared

and then i go and find this...

Ducati North America sold 1,410 bikes during June, a 22 percent increase from June, 2007. In comparison, US car sales slumped 18.8 percent during the same month. Motorcycle and scooter sales are reaching a 20-year high in America despite the economic recession. Anecdotal evidence from dealership-owning friends suggests that many people who’ve always toyed with the idea of purchasing a bike are using high gas prices as the excuse to do so. This indicates that it’s a change in public perception, not economic motivation driving sales, hence the record numbers for a high-priced luxury brand like Ducati.

i wonder if the same is going on for Aprilia. :O
