DR Rossi Eprom review

S

Sensei

Dr Rossi offered me to try out one of his eproms to compare it with the other 9 different chips I have so I said yes to this very kind offer . The Eprom turned up today & I couldn't get my spare ECU out of the cupboard quick enough to put it in & try it out , 10min later the bike was fired up with out touching anything just plug the ecu with the new Rossi chip in it & bike warmed up great without any effort or stalling & settled down to a low 600rpm which I turned up to 1000rpm when it got to 75deg , grabbed my helmet & off up the road & insantly noticed how very smooth the power delivery was not as hard hitting as the Factory Pro which has a very aggressive ignition timing map but still easly lifting the wheel of the road at around 2800rpm in
1st & then again in 2nd at 8000rpm which was the same as the FP chip but the motor was much less vibratey which I found was a down side to the FP chip , yes ther FP made big power but at the cost of making the motor feel abit stressed when pulling high revs . The DR Rossi chip when pushed to full revs pulled totally clean right through to rev limiter in every gear till 260k was showing on the speedo :devious, top gear roll on's from 100ks where excellent with no sign of hesitation or flat spots even from 2000rpm :doug.
I will adjust my air bleeds to just fine tune the bike to the eprom 2moro just to see if it needs it & will check the plugs for how things are inside the motor to check mixtures but from how it ran 2day I'd be surprised if it needs to much playing round with . The end result ? is it better than a FP chip , hard call to be fair the low down of the FP chip is good but you have to watch it as it can spin up the rear easly out of corners when leant over where as the DR-Rossi chip delivers the power alot more linear & controlled making getting hard onto the power earlyer exiting the apex easyer , which when racing is everything !! or dusting up a Jap bike . Mid range power are pretty much the same abit more again with the FP but not by much , then the top end from what I have said above the FP feels vibratey when high in the revs where as the Rossi just keep on going smooth as & was by all things abit better .My finial call both exceptional eproms love the FP eprom & now loving the silky smooth power produced by this eprom . A DRAW :dunno: Anyways a huge thanks for your eprom Alain & must say very excellent work with your skills in developing these chips . Highly recommend to all Eprom ECU'd Mille owners :thumbup

Thanks for that write up.

I am hoping to have the Drrossi chip here this week, just need to pull the PCIII out or download a nuetral map before I run it.

Cant wait to get out and test it.

By the way Sensei, is there much to changing the eprom. Given you seem the expert, perhaps a HOW TO with pics would be great :thumbup

Anyone else who has download a map onto a PCIII SERIAL, would love a HOW TO on that,............ooooppps perhaps thats my thread..sorry.

Anyway will gladly let all know how it goes as I will test before with current PCIII setup and then with just the Drrossi chip.

PS: Sensei, are you a martial artist?? If so what style???

I agree with your review. For the money they're pretty good. Back to back with the RSV titanium race chip, i cant notice much difference apart from a slightly less harsh power delivery.

Loads of threads on here to show you how to change your chip. Dont forget to reset your throttle position sensor to 0 after its been fitted.

OK my friend, the chip looks like it is easy enough.

NOW, what is the throttle position sensor and how do you set it to 0???

Cheers Pete

Yes we are !! I can sort out all miss understandings quickly :devious

Flip the fuel tank back and remove all the airbox to expose the throttle bodies. Dont drop anything past the buttetflies, like screws etc. The throttle position sensor is mounted on the rear throttle body with two allen bolts. Slaken these off just enough so it will rotate. Do not remove it! Next plug the diagnostic wires together (mine are under the left hand side panel near the seat). Slacken off the tickover screw totally. Turn the ignition 'on' and turn the sensor until it reads '0'. Carefully tighten up the two allen bolts whilst keeping an eye on the '0'. Then put the rest of the bike together and disconnect the diagnostic wires.:thumbup

Thankyou my friend, that almost sounds like I can do it. Is the sensor a digital readout or something?? Will I be able to see what the readout is already, just incase its already at 0??

Cheers for the help..........:thumbup

Good to know mate, so any accident disputes kinda go your way in the end :devious

Glad I nominated your bike for ROTM then .....................:thumbup

Yep the readout is digital, but you have to crane your neck to adjust the TBS whilst reading the right hand side dash.

Thanks my friend, will check it out as soon as the chip arrives.

STAY tuned for more HELP.......aahhh, that should be to give me HELP :thumbup

Further to report from 2days testing , as I had only run the bike with the first map , DR Rossi suggested I try the 2nd map by taking my derestrict wire apart again to open the 2nd map this done , I tryed it out but my bike didn't like the air bleed settings that was suggested so run the bike back at my normal settings which brought the bike back to full life again , so off up the road & things where as per the 1st map silky smooth power that started to build stronger as I started to pull into the high revs so kept the throttle pinned & watched as the bike raced up 10,000rpm still pulling strongly & past till I seen it showing 11,200rpm !!! what happend to the rev limiter ?? hooked another gear & wound the wire right round to the stop again & did the same thing in the next gear Now you have to love that :thumbup . Have always thought the motor need to have about another 1000rpm to keep the Jap bikes in check abit easyer & now I have it . Where as before the motor would start to lose power right up top from 9,800rpm til 10,500 limiter it now pullls right through this area without show signs of letting up a most excellent way to finish off a outstanding eprom :inlove:eek:wned

I agree, got my chip last week, de-cyphered the instructions and found my current chip was already an after market one (Damn). Put Dr Rossi's in, set the TPS and TB screws and I'm amazed how smooth the bike is now off bottom to mid throttle. It does pull really clean to the rev limiter, I'll post the dyno results before and after shortly

cheers Dr Rossi !
