Does your T back fire?

Hi there

I took my 2004 Tuono to an Aprilia Dealer because it tends to back fire when throttling off, expecially when you throttle off at low speed then throttle back on again to start to speed up. Is this normal for a Tuono? They did not solve what i think maybe a problem but they did de-restrict it for me and switched to Map2. Runs awesome now. The throttle position and some other type of O2 sensor was out as well. With all these adjustments it still back fires. Other than that it runs beautifully. Just wondering if it is normal and I should live wth it or if in fact there is something amiss.

Thanks.

Woody.

Hi Woody

I am no authority on this, however - it sounds like either there's a leak in the exhaust allowing air to be sucked in (on the overrun), or the O2 sensor's not doing its job properly. Or, if it is a true backfire, then it is some other issue perhaps with either the injection system or the ignition timing.
I get an occasional pop with my Akra slip-ons, but no backfiring or crackling on the overrun.

I have also read that backfiring can cause drama with the starter's sprag clutch as well. I would deffo get it sorted.

I get a lot of nice popping on the overrun but no backfiring from mine (2007 Map2 with cored pipes and renegade airkit)

But as Nobist has pointed out a 2004 Tuono bike doesn't have the axone ECU system fitted so you can't have Map2, maybe a different chip but not Map2

Backfiring is normally due to a leak in the exhaust system as CL has already said

Hey man, I'm with the other fella's, I too am a VERY happy 04 T owner, de restricted, chipped and titanium race pipe - no popping, no back fires, as the others have stated your pulling air somewhere: Pop Pop Pop then Ba Banngggggggg
