Does anyone know the legalities of daytime riding with front track fairings fitted i.e. no front light. Presumable indicators and mirrors are not an issue as my KTM has nether and is legal, I was just wondering if it’s doable to take the RSV out without putting all the road stuff back on.

Cheers.

Yes mate you can use it without lights, I run mine with full race bodywork and only have a brake light. When you get it mot'd they will issue an advisory stating no lights fitted and not to be ridden in bad light.

Hmmm, I think any road motorcycle after 1986 has to have mirrors and indicators by Law (even if it passes an MOT)

Your KTM is designed for off road use so you may be able to argue on that one.

Make sure you inform your insurance, or it will be void, the issue is if you are involved in an accident. The courts/police may rule that having no indicators / lights / mirrors are 'contributary to the accident'

ride with care

You dont have to have indicators and mirrors, if it was law then it wouldnt pass an mot. I have been using a bike on the road for about 8 years with race fairings and only a break light, i have been stopped and asked to produce docs but never had any points/ fines or anything else.

as daft as it is an mot and road legal are 2 diff things do you need a horn imean the sort that makes a noise not the excited type just been reading the mot regs and i dont think it even needs a brake light but might be wrong

As far as I can remember you can get an MOT without front and rear lights, brake light and horn. I think it was know as a "Daylight MOT" or "Limited MOT" I think its a case of if they are fitted to the bike they must work? I used to run a race bike on the road from time to time but I'm sure it had a normal MOT ....I did fit a small aftermarket led brake light though.....I think you would struggle in an insurance claim if someone ran into the back of you and could prove you had no brake light?

Thats right mate, if lights are fitted they need to work and you dont need a horn. The mot will be a normal one with an advisory note stating no lights fitted, I used to call it a "daytime mot" as a lot of people do, but got told by my mot man there is no such thing it's just a nick name.

yep, a bike will pass the mot test no problems without indicators or mirrors. my last few bikes passed without either. Although on the Mille im leaving the indicators as people dont really like me indicating going right on a roundabout with my leg lol

To set the record straight , daytime MOT requirements are ............ 1. a working horn .............................................................................................2. a reflector(red ) on or above the number plate

If in doubt , check with DVLA
as for notifying your insurance company , wouldn't have a clue
