Does anyone else get pins & needles when riding a twin?

M

milliemonkey

As it says on the tin.

Is it normal or am I a freak?

I don;t remember getting them when I had my SV1000S (i miss her..... until i ride mollie)

I've still got my Sv1000s and that is prone to numbing my hands ( Well I'm blaming the Sv anyway :devious)

Although to be fair to it ,I fitted heated grips and they are a much harder compound ,more of a plastic so that didn't help.

I only got my Mille to save lobbing the Sv down the track. Unfortunately the Mille turned out to be the best bike I have ever ridden :inlove and I'd rather risk the Sv on track now.

Have you changed the bar end weights?

Ian

PMSL. brilliant.

No i havn't. I don;t know anything about them. what should i try? lighter? heavier? bigger? smaller? Anything but purple

Not sure really, mine has the R&G ones fitted but as I've only ridden it for about an hour at a time max all I can say is it buzzes less than the Sv.

I guess Aprilia went to great lengths to get Mille as vibe free as poss,so any change from standard may cause something :dunno

Out of curiosity were you on the Sv forum? Why did you change bikes?

Ian

Got to say the Mille is generally much more comfortable so far, I toured round France & Spain on the Sv and that was crippling.

Thought I had Vibration White Finger ( in the arse cheeks) for weeks after I got back. 3250 miles in 2 weeks put me off any more long distance juants on twins.

However, riding a pair of twins for a couple of hours is another thing :devious ( I wish)

A bint pulled out in front of me and wrote it off. I was gutted. Especially when i opened my eyes and all i could see was the catalytic converter of a vectra. My sphinkter didn;t open for a week!!

Wasn't on the forums bud no. I still have some stock cans for it for some reason. how much do you reckon i'd get for them?

The only time I had a real problem was on my Bikesafe Course because I was riding so sensibly in front of the copper!
They do vibe more at low revs so maybe you want to look at your gearing if the type of riding you do leaves you in this zone for long periods.
I've just swapped my bar ends for R&G ones but I reckon they were about the same weight (fairly hefty) and have not noticed any difference. If you've got cheap aftermarket bar ends you might find they are letting it vibe more - worth a look.

try taking your bar ends off and filling the handle bar with silicon before putting ends back on....... worked on me 'storm....

I get it real bad at the mo, Im not 100% but i think I it has only happened since fitting R&G's. Im gonna remove the fork protectors this weekend to see what happens.

I get it really bad, in fact if I ride to work everyday for a week I sometimes wake up with pins and needles !! Thought about gouing to Docs to see if I have Carpal tunnel, but then when I didn't go on bike for 2 days it went away, I also found not wearing a jacket over my leathers helped, guess the extra tightness wasn't helping on the wrists

I have stock bar ends. but cheers bud.

I'll try the silican thing soon. Ta.

Carpal in the what now???

My '07 does not cause any problem. I removed the bar-ends in favor of 3" mirrors and it still doesn't vibrate. But here's the thing: my 36" arms allow me to sit up on the bike and so, there is minimal weight on my hands. The weight is what causes numbness in my hands, not vibes.

Good point Chris. Guess you'll have to work on strengthening those core muscles millemonkey.

It's not much fun...have a possible low level case myself; had cortisone injections in both wrists last year (that hurt!) and seems to have eased the pain.....I think there are a number of factors that cause the numbness....I've experienced it on all bikes I've had from Bandit through R6 to Mille & it's usually at low speed so pressure on wrists (particularly the right as it has to lock in position to control throttle) and when wearing rucksack or fleece over leathers, or new gloves....Unfortunately the only resolution I've found is to avoid slowing down!!!:devious

It's the only thing that works for me also. No clipon style bar is comfortable at slow speeds for me.

Loosen your grip and let your hand relax a bit, most cases of recurring white finger is due to gripping to hard.........

Mainly happens to me when the wifes at work of an evening :biggrin

Trust me, im a welder :dowhat
