Don't do a great deal of road miles on my 02 RSV R. Mainly Sunday blats etc. Have been thinking of adding some extras - exhausts, new airbox and a bit of bling etc.

My question is. Is it worth the effort or would I be better off buying a newer RSV Factory?

Its so easy to spend a couple of grand which probably won't add any (or very little) to the value of the bike. Not ridden a newer Mille so not sure if there is much difference - any thoughts would be appreciated :thumbup

I have a modded airbox, altered gearing, end can and performance chip , all for less than £500. The difference is amazing and although I commute quite a bit as well as Sunday scratching its all been worth while.

Perhaps a full suspension setup to your weight/riding style would probably be of huge benefit as well.

As yours is a 2002 (if a genuine 2002) it will have the more powerful "big valve" motor so the perf gains should be more :)

Personally mate i'd go for the newr bike as those mods won't, as you say, add anyvalue to the bike but a newer bike will always be worth more.

I assume the newer shape bikes are faster????? anyone?

mine is an 05 and its the best bike i've ever had ,not ridden older model though so cant compare have been told by the one's that know? that the new engine is best and the old frame is best ?? loads on here will know for sure i guess but who cares anyway non of us are rossi on the road or track and if you read all the chip wrappers out there you would update every month with their talk of 2 tenths of a second faster this and horse power that etc etc

to chop it in will be £4000/£5000 or maybe more ? to trick yours up will be £1500 maybe and then you can sell all the trick bits separately when you do eventually get rid .

sum up if your happy with it keep it . a new factory will be new for a short period and you prob wont get anymore out of it enjoyment wise . save your money pal buy some goodies :thumbup

Question. Are the new ones a lot lighter than the old ones? Mine seems very heavy

Now that sounds like the voice of common sense :thumbup

There are very few if any riders that can take their bikes to the limits on the road. As someone famous (I believe it to be D.J ) once wrote " If someone tells you they thrash their Gixxer thou' on the road, they're lying ! "

I've not ridden the later model but mates that have owned & ridden both say the later ones are more powerful but ultimately less satisfying as they took away all the low down grunt and stacked it at he top end. :dunno

All down to personal choice + disposable income I guess.

They are lighter but not a huge amount and the weight is slightly lower so not quite as top heavy feeling.

Newer motor does produce more horses but it's a bit further up the rev range and at the expense of a little real bottom end torque.

later bikes fuel better (smoother) because the Ecu is 8 times the capacity of the original so takes more sensor readings, more often.
Needs to be in open loop mode with decent cans though cos Cats strangle it.

Later bikes ditched the Austin allegro shaped Dashboard :biggrin

Build quality was lower on some later bikes during Aprilia's financial woes.

I like the dash on mine 02. Bit star trak tho.

Err. sorry for hijacking your thead budwieser. I've changed my mind. do up your old one. The new one has a fanny between the headlights anyway.

If your fanny is just too big and gapeing for your taste you can always fir the later grille to it. About £15 from Rsvr.net

I might be a bit late with my opinion as this thread appears to have gone a bit smutty! Nevertheless......I've had both models - newer RSVR first and Mille second!! Loved them both, BUT prefer the Mille as although it's a bit of a marmite style (love it of hate it) the way the engine is set up is better than the later model (in my opinion) - much more mid-range grunt & engine braking than RSVR, which provides a more satisfying ride. The RSVR is more 'revvy' and yep the top end rush is great but on the road I couldn't really find a use for it...130plus!! Additionally the RSVR has a better screen set-up than the Mille - I really feel the wind blast on the MIlle whereas the RSVR provided excellent wind deflection - may be I've got a crap screen (Fabbri). BUT it all comes down to personal choice at the end of the day...all the best.
