Hi all.

Just fitted my Akrapovic cans and took her for a spin and waited for the spluttering at the usual 3k and 7k revs but they didn't arrive.

She runs beautifully right round the rev counter in all gears, well at least in the first four as I hit 135mph and ran out of road.

I wondered if the previous owner had already changed it but he said the bike has been standard from new.

So............. my question is: Do i still need to change the mapping?

My local dealer wants £75 to change the mapping so if I don't need it would rather keep the money in my pocket.

Hope you can help guys.

hmmmmmm I would say if it is running sweet and you like it as it is then leave it , but it might be cheaper to (and this is just a maybe), get the exhaust gases analysed to make sure its not too lean or too rich, failing that get it dynoed (a basic power run for 40 quid) to confirm it.

P.S that "private" testing road is great isnt it :)

i would get it checked to see if it is on map 2 for the open cans just to be on the safe side fella

Cheers mate, will do them both I think.

I actually have an old airfield just up the road from me which is good for testing top speeds but it was shut off today, but yes the "private" testing roads I used are awesome lol.

Hi mate, thanks for the reply, why do you say 'on the safe side' could i do some damage if it is not?

not too sure to be honest but when i had my akras put on my 06 rsvr dk motorcycles told me it needed to be put on map 2

either spoonz or griff will be best to answer this i think

but i do know map 1 was designed for standard cans and map 2 was for the open cans

I would get it changed but £75 seams very steep! im sure it takes 5 mins, just plugs in and changed automatically. My dealer did mine for free, but it was at the same time as I bought the bike.

I thought that was expensive too and the dealer wasn't very keen when I asked if I could watch tosee how they do it, probably because like you say it is a 5 minute job.

At £75 I would probably by the PC111 and do it myself then if anyone else on here wants it done they can just pop rund and I will do it foc.

Being a complete newbie to the RSV map thingy, if I buy a pc111 will I be able to change the mapping myself? or still have to take it to a dealer?

I think it can only be done with an Axone unit :dunno It looks like a big calculator :biggrin

Mate

£75 to change the mapping is taking the p*ss. My local dealer did mine and balanced the CO levels and charged me £40. He did tell me that running the Akros on map 1 wouldn't cause any damage but running the standard cans on map 2 would cause damage.

Thanks mate, will be giving them a call Moday to haggle down to £40.

Cheers

Mahony, YES you do need to get your bike switched to MAP2 and also the C02 settings adjusted to suit. Your bike will be running very lean at the moment, don't risk revving he bike too much, melting pistons is not unheard of

steve

you got a pm mate!!

Get it checked , and 75 quid i'd have punched the **** in the face for even considering me that much for a switch over!! Throttle bodies also need to be balanced after the operation so any 5 min quick change is bull ***** !!! it takes a minimum of 30 mins to do it prperly!!

ridethelight

go and see your dealer again and ask him to do it properly!!!! any worries mate call me!!

im actually goin to see rocketsy and andirsv in ayr next week , maybe we should catch up??

Good to hear from ya!
