Oh please dont say that, nothing worse than having your fella sat in a puddle

i've done several trips including french alps, switzerland, etc upto 2500miles in a week.
i find touring on the v4 is fine.my bike is a 2014abs with aprilia touring screen, ventura rack and sat nav.
i get 120 miles to a tank cruising at 80-90mph the screen is essential though.
hope this helps

Ive already bought a puig screen for longer days but its good to know, Main concern is always going to be finding fuel! :)

i'm off to the Alps next month, should be 2-2.5k miles in as ever long as it takes, got the Aprilia touring screen and a larger tank, for luggage i have the Kreiga bags along with a tank bag. hopefully it will be ok, with any luck it will be dryer than last year as we did have it ***** comeing through Verdon Gorges, Switzerland and the Black Forest.

Found out the hard way last week...when the reserve light comes on, don't muck around...20 miles and she ran out of fuel...had to push her the last mile.

the farthest ive done so far was in a driving miss daisey kind of syle and went to 17.9miles, luckily I didn't have to push lol. I was starting to stress though, even pulled over to check google maps for closest petrol station.

Alright Gav,
Travelled down through France into Andorra and Spain last year. Bike was fantastic, as we all know its goes like a rocket and out handled the other bikes on the trip. Used Ventura luggage and small Kriega tank bag for wallet, passport etc. Owned 2005 ZX10R for last 10 years, absolute beast of a bike but the Tuono is in a different league and much preferred it for this type of trip. MPG wasn't brilliant but if you brim the tank you should get 120 ish before light comes on, max I did was 128 before light. Of course if your flat out everywhere it will drop dramatically, wasn't really an issue apart from the pisstaking from the other lads, but then they were riding Beemers !!!

All sounds good! I will be travelling with only my Kriega backpack on with the small pocket attached to the shoulder for dosh ect...

Just need to keep an eye out for the fuel stations, in reality i will fuel up at 80 miles regardless.

How was the migrant situation going back into Calais when you went back in? When I went this time last year it was unnerving having groups of people on the side of road in the traffic leading up to the tunnel, Heard its gotten alot worse. I was thinking of doing a crossing from Portsmouth-Stmalo/Cherbourg this time for safety

Hi Gav,

Always do Portsmouth to Ouisterham, not the quickest of crossings but gives a chance to catch up with the other lads and of course no migrants to deal with..
Just a Kriega backpack that's impressive, every year I end up overpacking, but never effects the handling and bike runs sweet, apart from the small radiator hose linking to coolant pipe leaking coolant on final day last year..

Might give that a look later, Shame because the tunnel is really cheap and quick, Just dont like the idea of riding back that way due to all the isuues lately.

Kriega bag seems to be just enough for me, Couple pairs of Y-fronts/tshirts flat trainers, then just a couple bits for the bike (Hex keys, mini chain lube, mini socket set) I put my cash and phone in the little "Holster" on the chest harness and im away!

Did a trip across to france/Belguim and holland last year just like that with the Multistrada before trading in for the Tuono and all was fine.

Only problem I encountered was the Automated Fuel stations not accepting my bloody card!

As I said on another thread, I've just got back from the MotoGP in Mugello.

The run down was quite relaxed as I wanted to avoid the autoroutes and do the Route Napolean. I started looking to fill up after about 100 miles and even managed 130 miles before the light came on.

My accommodation was 25 miles from the circuit in the Tuscany hills but took about 1 hour, ten minutes to ride as it was the twistyist road I have ever ridden.

After fabulous weather for the racing the forecast for the ride back didn't look too good so I decided to do the iron butt thing and get back as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately it was the worst weather that I've ridden in in over forty years of riding.
It lashed down from 9.30 when I filled up in Milan until I got off the bike in Moulin at 6 o'clock, including extreme winds in the Aosta valley and snow/ sleet at the Mont Blanc tunnel.
That's two consecutive trips to Italy where I've had deadful weather so I think I'm now cured of the distance thing and will now stick to shorter trips.

Apart from the warning light and "service" appearing on the dash just before Moulin ( after about 500 miles of atrocious weather ) the bike ran faultlessly ( after stopping and checking for any obvious signs of a problem I checked to make sure the bike had oil, restarted the bike and the warning light and service sign had gone. It never reappeared so must of been a bit of damp getting in somewhere).

Sounds brilliant, Thats the sort of trip id love to try, 130 miles to a tank?!much better than my current 110.

I've wanted to try the Swiss mountain passes for so long now, Think its time to take the risk and just go

I do European trips on mine. I have Hepko and Becka luggage - side and top bags, gel seat, screen and I carry a 2ltr fuel can as range is the bikes Achilles heel. Works great for the boring miles and then we all know how good it is when you get to the twisties. I'd recommend the US side stand for the ferry/Chunnel.

I've seen the H&B bags on ebay, Are they any good? I was looking into getting 2xfuel bottles(the Trangia ones are 1ltr each) as a failsafe, Its a pain having a lack of fuel range!

I'm guessing the US spec side stand is shorter then?

When we went to Le Mans last year we planned whole route around fuel stops!!! My mate carried some spare fuel on container on his top box... All I would recommend is a gel seat.... Not armchair comfort but worth it o er longer trips or day after day... Got one going cheap just pm me if you interested... Most o got was 13 miles after light on to dry [emoji6]
