About 3 months ago I fitted a HID dipped headlight conversion to my 02 RSV, the fit was easy and all was well until I decided to switch to main beam one night.

I noted that the benefits of my HID lamp conversion were lost as soon as I flicked that main beam switch.

The dipped beam unit went out as soon as I switched on the main beam, very strange why this is like this.

I did my research on the usual RSV forums and came across a solution that works very well. This small modification allows the dipped beam to stay illuminated when the main beam is activated, a must do mod for all who have HID's fitted.

Simple to do but you do need some soldering ability.

One last thing, I would recommend that you do not attempt to solder the black wire you just removed to the terminal on the back of the switch, best to solder to the cable about 2cm away from the back of the switch.

Another good post amb :thumbup i might do this mod sometime and this is very helpful are you a sparkie :dunno

Nope!

I'm an ex techie and I have a few days off and I'm scouring all the forums looking for mods to carry out on the bike to sort out a few issues I have.

Working on the rectifier wiring mod at the moment, post should follow soon.

When you do the dipped beam mod, can you post some clearer pics please?
I also have a HID low beam and this pisses me off as well.
Thanks.

Sure will mate, that piccies a little blurred.

Promise to replace with a clear one soon, may even get time to do it tomorrow.

Well done Amb. I found exactly the same. I rode for miles with my finger on the flasher switch to keep all lights on. Looking forward to a clearer piccie.

i did this mod couple of years back, i used the spare termal on the h4 bulb & took a feed off the +main beam feed

great post! this will save me from riding around holding down the flash button so i can have both on at night

Wolf, have a look at the other 'How to' I did on this subject, it's a little clearer on what you have to do.

why do you need all the lights on can't see the point myself(excuse the pun) :dunno
4 of us recently fitted hids and have never had any trouble whatsoever and to be honest when you put high beam on it isn't as good as the hid anyway.
kev has the newer model with twin hids on and is no brighter or give a clearer view than our single lights either:confused. the standard lights on the older shape are officially crap anyway high beam or low!

The reason for doing this mod is to stop the dipped beam (Halogen or HID) going out when you put your main beam on When it goes out you lose that 10 - 60 yard range of lighting.

With Halogen it's not that much of an issue but with HID the ballast unit demands lots of current/volts to re-ignite the burner.

If you can't see the difference in your illuminated field of view (range) then your main beam must be set too low or your dipped beam is way too high.

I agree that the visibility issue is not that important with HID's fitted.
