is this the one which requires the tweaking of the Throttle Positioning Sensor? I had messed with that a lil and the bike started running smoother however I'd like to hear from you guys about this code. it has 8K Miles on it. and recently rebuilt the starter. thanks.

PS. can't change typo on the title for future search.. oh crap.

-1 0 or 1 are Tps position codes.

The TPS is normally set after a general fueling setup and with the idle set at the correct speed.
If you increase or decrese the idle after it's set at 0 it will read a higher or lower figure depending on which way you adjusted it buts it's not an indication of a fault.

thank for the info! one more question my friend, I adjusted my quick idle to 2000 RPM after putting some crappy gas in my baby, I live in Cali at 500ft Elavation. What do you guys set the idle at? and one more thing what's the correct procedure of adjusting the TPS and the idle? Thank you Spoonz

on the early models the adjustment is via a knob on the right side off bike ,forward increase, back decrease,1250 is the stated tick over speed in the book ,hope this helps you

yeah I have the knob so where should I set the idle at? 2000RPMs? is that where it's suppose to be or lower? thanks kirk :)

hey it is cali d i have my 02 set at 1500 and that seems wear the dealer set it too.

hi mate in my manual it states to set at 1250 rpm 2000 too high mate i have old shape rsv 2003 it should be same for yours mate.

:pirate:eatcornTPS is easy to adjust/

Wind out your tickover screw all the way - untillit has no effect on the idle speed.

Connect the two diag wires

Should read 0

If 1 or -1 then:

Lift the tank
remove air box
loosen the tps holding screws - mine was a star fangled thingy

Gently rotate the tps unit until the diag reads 0

tighten her up

re check diag . Still reads 0?

Airbox back on

Tank back in place

Reset the idle speed screw

Dont want to sound a numpty Sabre (bit too late now :biggrin) but what effect would it have if it was out :dunno

well Sprok me old mate its like this see, The TPS tells the ECU what position the throttle is in ( the clue is in the title). :devious So if the ecu thinks the throttle is open when it not then youve got a fuelling issue. Wouldnt be much I dont suppose but every little helps. Mine was out when I checked it and after I reset it I thought the engine was a little "crisper"

A lot of people make the mistake of checking it with the Idle screw wound in.

Thanks for that Stuart :thumbup i will check mine while i've got the airbox off for some mods i'm doing at the moment :devious
