Good evening, spoilt for choice on nakeds, but have narrowed the choice to the Tuono or S1000R, have not yet got out on the Tuono due to weather. Must make the effort, any others that have faced a similar choice! Having had Aprilias past I have been shocked by the depreciation so the head element says to look at the BMer! However having heard the engine note on the Tuono my heart heads elsewhere! Except for the fugly looks.

I have noticed some good deals on Tuonos coming along, no doubt to get ride of demo bikes or new old stock prior to the leaked 2015 model.

Thoughts and comments appreciated. Nice to have such a great problem !

Rgds

It would be between the Tuono and the KTM 1290, if it were my money. I obviously chose the Tuono.

BMW is a nice bike but just lacks something the other two have for me. On paper, they are all cracking bikes.

A mate of mine was looking for a super nekked earlier this year.

He test rode the S1000 r and absolutely loved it. (coming from a z750)

He then took a ride on my V4r.................................

This was three months ago and he still has a stupid grin on his face :thumbup

Next spring he will be purchasing a V4r.

The bimmer is a great bike with lots of bells and whistles, but it lacks chaacter compared to the APE.

Faced the same dilemma, was chsoing between Tuono, super duke r and s1000r. Obviously I chose the Tuono, the engine is just insane. The s1000r was at the bottom of my list, whilst quick I found it soulless and lacking any character.

Personal preference of course.

I'd also offer that you should never buy a bike based on logic, go with the heart!

i was thinking of trading 2011 v4 for s1000r went to go for test ride ,looked at the two side by side had my doubts started it up had more doubts, thinking this bike is going to go so much better than it looks and sound, then i thought been down this road before, traded a crossplane r1 after one test ride on s1000rr fastest thing ever loved it,after a few rides i new i had made a mistake so traded it for the v4 after 10 months,so did,nt take it out, traded for 2014 v4 not much diff to the 2011,but every one to their own

latest issue of fast bikes has the naked superbike of the year award write up, IMO its a good report and very interesting to find the T on top mainly down to its track focus.
TBH after reading the report I would be looking at the KTM SD

I had the same dilemma back in May, narrowed it down to the S1000 and the V4R, BMW dealer staff were arrogant and horrible, bike was great but soulless in the final decision so went for the V4, great bike, love the looks although its a bit "marmite", great sound, bags of character, helpful friendly Aprilia dealer gave a reasonable deal so went for that in black....never regretted it for a minute and haven't stopped grinning like an ***** since.

Thank you! Made that mistake on decision making with my first wife! Test ride now organised for the end of the week...

Don't think you'll go wrong with either, both brilliant bikes. I went for the Beemer, and 2,500 miles in no regrets at all, amazing bike. Only negative for me is the noise, it sounds crap next to a V4 or V2. Other than that I love it, always look forward to the next ride.

Mine yesterday:

Nice bike G.

I went into Allan Jeffries the other day ( Shipley BM dealer ) they had 6 of them , all sold waiting to go out. The rep said he can't get enough of them.

Cheers PC. Yeah they're selling well, ordered mine at huge start of April and finally got it at end of July. I think BMW have been smart on price, undercutting the Tuono and Superduke (which is well over-priced in my view).

Test ride done!

Negatives - still looks ugly! Quality of finish is not as good as the BMW. Riding position is further forward than BMW.

Positives- the way it moves, the way it sounds, the engine noise, the handling and the grin it puts on your face! I read somewhere you don't start it, you wake it up! Fantastic...

Did a deal when I got back, end result is one new black Tuono headed my way....I let my heart rule my head. Unusual for me!

Many thanks to all for the comments. :)
